does the bird usually have a tounge. I think I might have a doubled die, because the "tongue" is attached at the front rather that the back of the beak. Sorry, I can't do pics.
I thought I saw the same thing on one of my quarters once but I think it was a worn die and the beak just wasn't completely there -- or maybe it wore off...I don't know.
Take a close look at the photo of that quarter on the coin facts page (just click on it, it's in the column on the left)and see if the dent that supposed to be in the lower part of the beak is the same as on your quarter -- or if even looks like it started out that way. Maybe that will give you an idea.
I think I kept that quarter...I don't remember thinking that the bird had a tongue -- just that its mouth looked different from the others.
