As the Charlton Guide does not include much information on the special packaging options (or "derivatives") for its commemorative silver dollar series, I thought I would present a few images of the sets I have in my collection and maybe help others understand what's out there so they know exactly for what they are looking.

First up, the "1999 Brilliant Uncirculated Dollar and Journal Gift Set" for the 225th Anniversary of the Voyage of Juan Perez and the Sighting of the Queen Charlotte Islands.

The set is comprised of a full-color 9-3/8" x 4-3/4" folder with printing on all panels; all printed information is available in English and French. Historical information includes a brief background on the voyage and an excerpt from the daily log kept by Juan Perez. See below for images of each panel.

The set's namesake "Journal" is inserted into a pocket on the center interior panel. When I first bought the set, I thought the Journal might be a reprint of some pages from Perez's actual voyage journal/logs. In actuality, the included Journal is just a small blank notepad; the pages are adorned, however, with a watermark version of the ship illustration on the front cover. It was a little disappointing for me, but you can't always get what you want!

Enjoy! (I'll post other derivatives over the next week or so.)

Very interesting! Do you know how many of these gift sets were produced/sold?
