Hey guys, so I'm heading out on a road trip mid week and along the way I have to travel through a handful of little towns with populations of like 5000 or less. I'm wondering if I should pick up a hefty number of rolls from some of these small town banks along the way. What are peoples experiences with small town banks VS even small cities of say 75,000? I think that small town bank might reveal some good stuff.

Doesn't hurt to ask, you never know what banks are hiding. One of my best score came from a bank in a city with over 100,000 people in it. It's all about luck and being in the right place at the right time

I bought a cpl boxes of pennies yesterday in our small town and have found 37 wheats in the 15 rolls I've gone through so far. A 1919 being my oldest.

Wow! Nice haul.

I live near a relatively small town, going to pick up a few rolls. Wheats!

It does not hurt to try. It only takes one person cashing in their fifty year old coin jars to make for some good CWR searching.

Look at it this way, I would rather try and get skunked than not try and wonder "what if?" about it.

My small town bank rolls its own cent rolls. It gets very few rolls from the fed or brinks or ?. My daughter is a teller there and keeps an eye out for unusual dumping.

I'm still working on that same box and found 57 more wheats with 1917 and 1917-s being my oldest this morning. Let's see that makes 94 wheats with 18 rolls left to search. Good box !

Looking for 92, 98,99,2000 wams and cams....69-s, and 72 are really slowing me down. I don't even try to save coppers. If I ever did that I would buy the sorting machine.

Cashed in a check for some computer repair work and got 20 rolls from a local small bank.

Confused about this statement:

Quote:
92, 98,99,2000 wams and cams

What should I be looking for besides my usual copper hoarding?

An inside person is a great thing. Back when I actively roll searched, I was dating a teller who would always inform me of the unusual dumps.

92 CAM ( Close AM) and 1998/1999/2000 WAM ( Wide AM). The AM refers to the letters AM in AMERICA on the reverse. Click on CAM and WAM for more information.

The cams and wams sell for pretty good money on ebay, I noticed. I don't know if we will ever find any but my wife is a freak for them.

Hit every small town bank you see! I have my best luck at these. Not as much roll searching competition at most of these banks. Also, so small towns are just better than others when it comes to coin.

I ended up with 141 wheats out of that one box, unreal. I got some 1920's and a cool 1936. Pretty pleased with the results but it's work when it comes to looking for all the varieties/dates.

I never found a single cam or WAM and I'm wondering if it's even worth looking. I kept the 69-s and 72's separate so I can look at them under my USB scope. Probably 20/30 of them to look at.

Good idea - when I tried this about a year ago, I got turned down by most banks because I wasn't a customer there. Banks where I was successful didn't yield much - just Brinks rolls. I hope you have better luck!

I have already located what towns have my bank...that way I wont have a problem with them... hope there are a lot of CWR in their little vault behind the counter. NIce old coins! I dont want to get too excited so that way I wont be disapointed if I get skunked but the thought the same coins may have been around for years excites me.
