@hockingzig: I think Silverhawk74 is a PM dealer...it's his job after all. I don't doubt he's highly qualified to make trades and come out ahead!

Quote: I suppose they'll only get more expensive in the future regardless of silver spot... that's my thinking exactly. If silver runs up, the value of these coins will go up with it as well. If silver tanks, the collector value will still float these rarer bullion coins above standard bullion. It's a win-lose much less scenario. Straight up silver stackers will always shake their head when they see people pay $100+ for a 1oz silver coin. But you know what, 90% of the 1oz silver coins I paid over $100 for a year ago now sell for at least $50 more than I paid while 100% of the standard bullion coins I bought around the same time is now worth $2-3/oz less. So, it's a no brainer for me to invest in kookaburras, wolfs, kangaroos, ural owls, pandas, etc. versus maples and eagles. SilverHawlk's not a bullion dealer, he's just another fanatic collector like the rest of us that can't resist the urge to buy the novel eye-catcher and have to sell from time to time to cover for these new purchases Right man?

poboxw, you're right,I am a silver stacker but in my silver stack are a variety of coins and bars. I bought them because I like them,I like their design or theme or layout or whatever. The collector in me will not allow me to "just" look at ounces. As an example,I once bought 50 ounces of silver and could have bought all 50 in Austrian Philharmonics which at the time had the lowest premium but was attracted to the Maple Leaf design,so I bought some of both at different premiums. I don't buy proofs or very low mintage/high premium coins because I don't believe that when the SHTF events occur anyone will pay the additional premium for them and that is why I buy silver. I love beautiful coins as much as the next guy but my priority with my silver budget is preservation of wealth first, beauty and numismatic value second. I am retired and can't risk losing my principal . Perhaps when all of this blows over I will buy some of those gorgeous Canadian Wildlife Series coins, but then it will be my hobby, not wealth preservation. Again,I am not saying anyone is right or wrong,if you got the cash and it makes you happy,go for it,I do in my other hobbies, but collecting silver is not really a hobby,it's investment for me. Lincoln Cent and Jefferson nickel roll searching is my coin hobby,as is mineral and gemstone collecting and playing pedal steel guitar, each has an allocated budget.

Yeah Hock lol, I don't think you all realize just how poor I am. And sometimes I have to keep selling to create some extra income. even working two jobs, an making a little on ebay, I still barely make enough to scrape by.... Now with a baby coming in early November, I have to figure out something more sound for sure Hock, perhaps a combination of how Pobox invests and you your self, a bit of a hybrid of sorts.... I do lean more toward how Pobox buys on the nicer stuff, which multiplies in value real fast in a short couple of years, compared to just old junk rounds an bars, that will ALWAYS be worth just a couple of bucks over spot. To each their own of course.... Keep in mind I had never bought one piece of 90% silver until recently, and now I have added about 7 or 8 Morgans, Peace dollars, an one Canadian 66 dollar, most of which is just fantastic gradeable shape, or toned out with some amazing colors.... I try to diversify into many areas, as I am just now noticing how profitable a single Merc dime, quarter, nickel, or half dollar can be, when toned in an attractive fashion, with a high grade from reputable grading company. So much to learn in this field, so many different areas an genres.... The first day I got into it, it was all just a .9999 bar of silver, or a 90% piece of silver, and how WRONG was I as there was an entire silver world to learn about, and that is just one metal. So much more to learn still yet about Pm's, an so little time eh.....

Silverhawk, first of all congrats on the soon to be bambino. Fatherhood certainly can change your perspective quickly. I remember the days of having to sell my textbooks to buy food to get through the week then go buy them back at used price. I ALWAYS bought NEW textbooks to start the quarter knowing I could sell them back for a bit more than used ones, then I would sell the best books when I needed money and go and buy back the rattyest copies to get me through the quarter. It is tough to invest or collect when ends seldom meet but I wish you the best buddy. Most of all, enjoy that baby, rock it,love it,spend time with it because that is the greatest investment you will ever make.

My wife and I have 2 great kids of our own and 2 grand kids from our daughter. Just looking at any of them tells me all about whether or not it was all worthwhile.

A 2002 at 60 bucks sounds like a great deal. It is already ten years old an sought after by others who look to complete set as you are doing. So I could see it going higher.....
I may plan to start with first year set of three of four next, and then begin filling in the middle slots, or just work my way backwards from 2008, not sure just yet on that, as I have been side tracked on the PCGS rainbow numismatic stuff. I love the hunt of filling the sets up. Don't get me wrong it is great when they complete, but you kind of feel like when Gilligan an the crew got off the island, lol....

Thanks chasinva69 as I have never seen that design as of yet and I really like that unique piece. And it is not exactly brand new. being 2006, so that just goes to show how much is out there, via ll the country's of the world and CERTAIN items being more common an easier found in locations closer to the country of its origin, like New Zealand in this case.... And I think many can attest here, I surf for different items an coins just about 24/7..... Curious of the average price for this piece trades for on ebay?

I just saw this one on ebay for $189 the prices being asked on these is a little ridiculous you ask me. Type in "silver kiwi" in the appropriate section of ebay world coins and see for yourself.

I started collecting Kooks but slowed down or burned out because they were really never my favorite Aussie bullion. But I love the Roos. Probably my favorite series. I believe I have them all except 2002, 2003. Just counted the Kooks: 15 different years. Not bad. A couple are proofs, too, which are a lot rarer. Here's one you're not likely to see anywhere, maybe ever again, due to its "very" low mintage:

Chase,
I love the NZ Kiwis. Now there is a coin with a high premium. I bought my first recently. It was a 2009, followed closely behind by a 2008. I've been outbid on the other 2006-2012 more times than I can count but I don't recall ever getting a shot at the 2004 or 2005.
