I have been branching out to some new areas as every time I make a decent sized sale on ebay, I take that money an put most of it back in more silver, upgraded if you will, even if that means going backwards in total ounce weight.... Some of you may find this crazy to sell silver an end up with less later, but if it is nicer, and I also use the rest of the money for bills an such, petty cash when needed it all works out pretty good.... Case in point I have did pretty well with those Goldas Swiss silver bars that come out of New York, a bit of a cheaper alternative to say the real premium stuff like Lunar dragon Pamp bars. I price them pretty high, and sold a 10 oz. bar at 375, an I got it when silver was way lower under 300. Did not break the bank by any means, but I turn that BORING 10 oz. bar into this set of four in chronological below, AND a 2012 Lunar dragon Perth Mint series two, in the nice hefty 2 oz. variety..... I like the Kookaburra as they are shall we say a nice mid range silver, with lower mintage an the coin image changes every year. I also like that reverse like proof quality, at again a decent price as this set here was a great deal at right at 50 bucks per coin I figure, so about 16 premium over spot each on ebay shipped not the worst deal I ever struck I figure....

beautiful coins. my only beef is with them is that there isn't a standard format (margins, font, etc.) from year to year. Each individual coin is awesome, but they don't look like a set when put together.

Quote: and the coin image changes every year Hawk . . . This is a nice feature of the Kookaburras. With your part time job, are you not able to pick these up at a little over spot when your store gets them in? Over the past several months I have been able to pick up 20 or so different 1 oz rounds & bars from my local "buy gold/silver" store, most @ $2-3 over spot except for a couple Pandas that I did pay more for & even on those, he looked up APMEX or a similar site's buy price & that's what I paid. I would think this should be a benefit your bosses should extend to you.

I made a trade. My Canadian 80% silver for 3-2009 1 oz. Aussie Koalas, 3-2009 1 oz. Kookaburras, 1-1 oz. Aussie Lunar series 1 "Year of the Ox" and 1-2 oz. 2009 Aussie Kookaburra. Now I felt good about the trade. I used the 2 oz. Kook and 2-1 oz Lunars and four ASE to acquire some gold, of which I had none till this trade. It was the first time I branched out in that metal. Well long story short. I miss that 2 oz. Kook. That was the last year the Perth Mint made Kooks in 2 oz. sizes. Well I saw that the person who I traded it to was using it to get a hold of a 10 oz. Lunar Dragon. I tried to reacquire that 2 oz Kook from that gentleman. But to no avail. It is now in a strangers collection. I hope that person is enjoying it. Now I look through ebay to try and find my missing Kook. That is one piece I truly miss!

I can indeed get silver from the shop at a real fair price but I feel bad getting the good stuff they can sell for higher to the public, an State taxes are still there. I do still get some from time to time. We don't have any kooks in house, minus the new 2012....
We have this amazing kangaroo set of five, via 1993-97, all in nice capsules an inside the plastic sleeves with the background art of the kanagroos hoping acorss the plains, that I will buy soon if no one else grabs them all....
Cool note on that 2 oz. Rasta, I will keep an eye out for it, and let you know if I spot it at a decent price....
That is a good point Pobox, but part of the ever changing design I figure...

Yeah that is a fantastic hard to find coin. I could only find two running on ebay up to about 90 each, both with about 25 dollar freight out of Australia, not exactly the auctions I shoot for, as one loses to much in freight. And transit can take way longer then I like to wait on silver buys, esp with a constantly fluctuating market..... I did see one buy it now, like 250, lol.... I will keep looking, an pounce on one for ya close by me if I see one come up....

Looks like a nice trade up, Silverhawk74. I too really like the changing and unique designs on the Kookaburra coins. Reminds me of the Chinese panda series, but more affordable and easier to find (at least for me).

thanks Silverhawk74, it's quite rewarding to complete a set, especially each coin has different image

I agree real rewarding to set a goal an stick too it an complete it....
I have added 12 of the 27 years worth of proof eagles, and still plan to try an complete the entire set....
That would be a tempting auction to pull the trigger on, via proof eagles from 1986-2012 I figure. All that work all ready complete by me, in hand picking each proof for the set one at a time mostly....

Those Kookaburras look great Silverhawk74! I agree with getting better looking silver but there definitely comes a price threshold (at least to me) where I'm like, "Am I really going to pay $100+ for one 1 oz piece of bullion? I have a collection of the Australian Kangaroos going but it's getting expensive! With the highest mintage ever in 1993 at 72,853 and the lowest at 2,500 in '94 & '95 you can see why but counting all the regular issues from 1993 on, the proofs from 1998 on and gold gilded from 2003-2009 as well as coin fair editions you're looking at ~50 pieces that cost $75-$300+each!
I've only been able to find them at APMEX and ebay. Coin shops I've been to don't have them and I have yet to see any at coin shows I've been to. A complete collection would be a dream come true but when it's all said and done I'd be sitting on 50 oz of silver instead of probably 200 1 oz bars from Sunshine, Engelhard etc that I could have bought with the money I'd have spent on the Kangaroos. I don't know...just a thought.
I was just saving money to purchase some 1 oz Engelhard bars but now you've got me thinking I should continue with my Kangaroos . I suppose they'll only get more expensive in the future regardless of silver spot...

Silverhawk, this may just reflect my stupidity, but, why not just wait for coins you like, buy them and hold them. Everytime you buy and sell you lose so it really doesn't makes sense to look at gains or losses on a single sale or purchase, over time it becomes very difficult to come out ahead. Just sayin'! I admit that I am a value investor,if I don't think I will make up the premium and shipping in a reasonable period of time, I ain 't buying or selling! Now,if you are primarily buying coins because you like them, then buy what you like when they are available. I guess the part I don't understand is why you sell the things you bought because you liked them. I am not saying you're wrong,I just don't understand!
