They go for a small premium for a few reasons.
When I sold a box of nickels on ebay in the past, I noticed it was a dealer on ebay who way buying the box from me. He then re-sold the rolls individually for a profit.
Some people buy the new rolls to cherry pick in hopes of finding a really high grade gem.
Other people buy the rolls for a "roll collection" they might have.
There could be many reasons why people buy these, but I don't think this date has much of a premium right now. I have just been dumping the 2011 d boxes I have gotten. After ebay and paypal fees, and shipping costs, there is not much room for profit.
I have noticed however, that at the beginning of the year, the rolls bring in a higher profit. When the 2011 nickels first came out, I had an easy time selling on ebay for a nice profit. As the year progressed and more became available, I stopped selling them and started dumping them.
Do what you wish, but they are just worth face value in my opinion of course.
