Hi guys

Take a look at these pictures....

My 2005 Toonie is not as thick as my 2008 Toonie.

Thin-2005-Toonie....?

Did a sound analysis of each coin, and there is a definite difference in both coins at the high end scale of the frequencies.

Below are the results....Or Am I seeing things (again...)

2005 TONNIE

Thin-2005-Toonie....?

how much does each weigh? and have you compared them to other examples of the same year?

to me the reeding also looks different. top coin they are thin and straight edged, bottom looks more bevelled cut (this could be normal for different years.)

looking at it some more it looks like the bottom coin has a more tapered edge along the whole rim of the coin and the top has more of a square butt-edge ridge. might just be an optical illusion making the one look thinner.

that or the 2008 needs to go on a diet

Could one be a counterfeit? I have found a counterfeit 2004 Toonie at the store I work at. I noticed because the edge looked different than the rest of the ones in the drawer. The centre could also be popped out easily.

Only known counterfeits for that year 2004.

Could we see the faces of the coins? If the metal looks dull, most likely it is counterfeit. I've already come across 2, and that's only in this past year alone. Both are 2004.

Twoonies are bimetallic. The adjustment of the core to the ring is not perfect and rarely business strike planchets are bored perfectly centered. With this in mind, the plots posted by wert mean very little when trying to analyse composition - the errors compound.

The "Montreal Mint" fakes are dated 2004 and 2005. The metallic composition of the 2 "series" are different. The 2004 are heavier and closer to the normal weight of the twoonie (coins and metallic profiles sent to the RCMP).

From 2005 on, the RCM procured planchets from various sources - there are differences in thickness but not significant weight differences. This coin may be a "normal" thin planchet (weight between 7.18 and 7.36).

Picture and weight are a must
