You would think they would be shipped registered mail, have them shipped to an alternate address, like your work address. Also, buying in quantity makes you more discrete, less buys, less attention.

$2.59 is a good price not great but pretty good. Don't sweat the delivery, people get valuable stuff in the mail all the time. If I were you I would find a local guy and take cash. I would bet you could get them $2 over if you paid with cash, plus the green box isn't that big its unbelievable how easy it is to hide 500 oz.
Do your research though, you may want to consider 100 oz bars. I have seen them numbers times around me, sometimes as low as $1.50 under but that is a best case situation. I can buy a 100 oz bars all day long for $.50 over around here.
To be honest one of my most dumb friends came up with the best idea to hide a big silver bar. He said to paint it the color of the brick in a basement and but it in the corner of the basement, sounds simple yet smart.

Throwback: It's my wife who is worried about delivery and if she isn't happy it ain't gonna happen.
I considered paying cash somewhere local, but I don't want to carry that much around and am nervous about being followed home.
I have gone ahead and reserved a PO box locally for $10/month that we will use for all PM purchases from now on. Tomorrow I'll get the actual number and then I will see about ordering the monster box. And yes, my wife liked the PO box idea and has agreed to the purchase.
Thanks, all!

Oh, and I prefer ASEs to large bars simply because they should be easier to dispose of down the line. If things hit the fan, it'll be easier to pay for bread with a single ASE than trying to break off a chunk from a 100 oz bar...

Yeah, I understand the SHTF thing but you know that probably ain't gonna happen. If you have $20k to spent there will be deals to be had trust me. As for carrying the cash just "act as if" act as if you don't have a dime in your pocket. Consider some 90% coinage, $1000 FV bag or some $100FV bags from Provident. Shipping is only $11.95 so you could do it in individual lots that way you could spread out your risk. I'd definitely stick with silver unless you can get a good deal on gold. Here is a pretty good deal from Provident at $.99 over. http://www.providentmetals.com/10-o...-metals.html

http://www.tulving.com/goldbull.html is selling for spot + $2.49/coin w/ minimum of 500 (1 monster box) the good thing is they let you choose which mint (West Point or San Francisco) that you are getting your coin from.... seemed like market prefer SF over W. However, the only distinction is the straps holding the monster box together; once the straps are broken, all coin inside look the same. Btw, APM just sent out an email w/ special promotion: 24hrs limit - spot + $.99/oz for APMEX rounds.

Quote: I just read this story about a bunch of coins being stolen: I'd have to agree with several of the commenters who said the dealer was either a first class idiot, on in cahoots with the thief. No one leaves over $150,000 in coins visible in a car and goes to dinner. I've seen warning fliers given to every dealer at a show, advising them them to take turns guarding the vehicle and taking a bathroom break.

Quote: A nearby post office has one that's 11 x 11, but that's still not going to fit a monster box (15 x 8.5 x 4.5). An 11x5.5 will fit a monster box. Think it thru.

I received an email form APMEX last night that said they are selling 1 oz. gold bars for only 30 bucks over spot. High cost for shipping is meaningless on an order that large, something to consider..... I too most likely would end up going silver, but man the 30 over would be tempting as the amount needed for monster box would divide nicely with that formula I figure.... Gold would have to hit 25 hundred an oz. to even think about a decent return and that is a big risk.... Tough call, wish I had this dilemma, lol....

Well, I already purchased a bunch of 90% silver in $100FV bags at the end of last year. The best price, of course, is the "junk" silver, and I did buy some of that in addition to some AU-BU coins, but it just doesn't do much for me. Most importantly, I've really just lusted after those monster boxes of ASEs ever since I first heard about them, and if my wife is on board I want to get one!
