It was news here in Toronto yesterday that the US mint has released the Hawaii State Quarters. The only problem is that the mint has decided that there are 10 Hawaiian Islands, instead of 8......Does that mean that these are going to be the new 1955/55?

No, because all coins would be produced in this way, not just the coins from one die or hub.

When did Hawaii lose 124 of its islands? And didn't that quarter come out in 2008?

ETA: I saw a photo of the extra island/s on that coin. Interesting. I wonder if it will be collectible or not?

I was thinking the Hawaii ATB, but it does not come out until August and does not have the islands on it.

If you google it you can find a couple pictures of it. Not sure it was an extra island added, but it was on some of the Hawaii State Quarters. None of mine have it, not even the one I got in change today.

I read about them a couple days ago and it seems the coins came from Philadelphia and do have 2 extra islands then the others have.I have not seen them but did read about it a couple days ago and I think it was Mike Ellis that gave the Philadelphia theory

There is an article in the NN this week that mentions it. One dealer has found quite a few and isn't selling any, until he gets a feel for how many are out there and how much they might be worth.
