My coin dealer knows that I like to buy silver eagles, especially since he sells them at spot. Because of that, he can not reserve them and does not know ahead of time when he will be getting them in so it's really luck of the draw when you can get them. Walked in this morning right as they opened and he smiled and said he got some ASE's in. I was thrilled and forked over all the money in my pocket. Ended up with 2 unopened tubes for a total of 40 coins at spot price. Might not be a big deal for most of you but as someone who normally buys a handful of 1oz bullion or a couple hundred dollars of junk at a time, 40 ASE's got me really excited.

That's great buy. I would love to have the money to buy 40oz in one transaction and 40oz is a large purchase for me. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats! I agree that there's something special about ASE's. I just bought my first ever Monster Box (500 ounces) of them and can't wait for them to arrive. I could have bought an equivalent amount of junk silver or silver rounds or bars for a bit less, but I just love the way the ASE's look. In fact, when they arrive I'll be torn between leaving them all in the OGP or dumping out all 25 tubes and rolling around in them... For the record, I'd feel the same way about 500 ounces of BU Morgan dollars, Walking Liberty half dollars, etc., but the premiums on those can get pretty steep.

Anytime you get 40 ASE's for spot price, esp with silver droppin like a rock right now at last glance, that is a fine deal for sure an well done.... Now silver may have pulled big big, AFTER you bought as you said as store opened, and as I looked around 1, silver an gold were in a major pullback, for one day anyway as gold was down to like 1640 and silver back down close to 32 per oz.... Even if you bought at a buck or two higher before afternoon fall, still fantastic deal IMO.....

You had $1300 in your pocket not knowing even if he had any? You must be a big man to carry that around.

he sells them at spot? I can't imagine that he buys them for less than spot plus 1 or 2 dollars

barryg, in my opinion rolling around in them is the right way to go.
Blueszone, I had the cash in the off chance he may have some, and I wanted all I could afford to spend on silver
ICanSeeYou, I have no idea how he does it or what their profit margin could possibly be but they do all precious metals at spot price, from junk to gold. They boast that they are one of the only wholesale coinshops in the country but I'm still not sure how that factors in.

I may have to enroll you for help when I decide to make a big purchase then..... even w/ shipping and finder fee, it would probably still cheaper than locally for me.

No, Ozerman. That is a BIG deal! American Silver eagles at spot, that is one beautiful score you made. Especially with silver on a bit of a dip. Good going!

Being able to buy ASEs at spot would be amazing. Every place I have ever shopped for them charge spot + $3-5 each. @Barry - terrific buy getting that monster box. Would like to have one of those myself... maybe 2 of them... one in ASEs and one in silver Maples. I can see it now. You are selling the ASEs at some point in the future, after having rolled around in them, when a discerning prospective customer looks closely at one of your ASEs and says, "Hey, is that a butt print on there?".
