That is amazing, how many more all #12 notes do you have stashed?

While waiting for Steve, I wanted to show this "Puerto Rico" note I picked up yesterday. I have several of these and it's one of my favorite issues. Like most I have seen, the paper is stone-white and the red ink just jumps at you.

As commonly known, despite the 1928 series date, these were not printed until c. 1933 and then not issued until 1948-49 - all in Puerto Rico (!) so that this one-year red design would not interrupt sorting procedures at mainland banks, who were then only dealing with blue Silver Certificates. That's the story.

I've lost count. I used to "tag" serial #12 notes in Photobucket, but they disabled that feature a while back. If I had to guess, I would say around 25-30.

Not currency, but a cool die proof and the note is was used on.



Heritage description;
Smillie Die Proof - Florida State Seal.
Another Smillie die proof printed on India paper and mounted on die-sunk card stock. The seal features a shoreline on which a Seminole woman is spreading hibiscus flowers. Florida's state tree, the Sabal palm, is growing. In the background, a steamboat sails before a sun breaking the horizon, with rays of sunlight extending into the sky. The seal is encircled with the words "Florida," and "In God we Trust." This seal is seen on 1882 Brown Back national bank notes from the state.

Just a remarkable $1 USN, Steve. It must not have taken long for these to migrate to the mainland from Puerto Rico - they were found now and then when I was a kid.
