Jeez, that's a long story. Basically, a bunch of guys know that I buy and re-grade CGA notes, so I get a lot of leads on stuff they don't want to buy for whatever reason. I then deal with the individual dealer, and if I end up buying, I pay a commission to the guy that tipped me.

Stever - No problem for sure. As I have said in the past, I think CGA is one of the most overly maligned companies in the grading industry. They were the pioneers and slabbed thousands and thousands of notes before the "Big Two" got involved, and remain very active today. CGA notes are fertile ground for cutting and resubmitting if you have an experienced eye and a bit of a gambler's instinct in you.

Here is another from my set, from the Atlanta district with a mid-range printing of 357,000. These 1928 series notes always seem to have darker blacks and greens than in subsequent series, and this is no exception, with bright contrast and embossing. From a centering standpoint, I cannot find a flaw on either side.

I see what you mean. Must be a shadow or something - not visible to my eye.

Coinfrog... have you attempted to scan your holdered notes (instead of taking shots at an angle)? I've done several and they may get a tad washed out but I don't have any glare problems.

Thanks, guys. I'm pretty happy with it and feel I got it at a decent price. Even still, it's by far the most I've ever spent on one U.S. Dollar. My friends think I'm absolutely nuts.

You mean other than being quite unusual? Anyway, great note! Kelly only shows two Red Seal $5s on the CD, both with different S/Ns than this.

CK - the Register of the Treasury's name on your Red Seal is J.W. Lyons, who served with Ellis from 1898-1905.
