As a newbie to roll hunting I started off with searching my penny jar at home and came across this 1909 Wheat penny. Seems like its in pretty good shape. Anyone have a thought on how this would grade?

Dawg51999: Welcome to the CCF! Do you have any other coin collecting interests?
How in Earth did a coin of this age and in this condition, with some red remaining, wind up in change?
You are in a position to be congratulated for your luck. Congratulations!

Thanks for the feedback. I found this in a big jar of penniesI had collected over the past 5 years. At first I just pulled it out for being a Wheat penny and it was only later when I was updating a list of my wheat pennies thatI realized the date. Actually if I never stumbled across this site there's a good chance I would have cashed it in at the bank one day with the rest of my change. But now I check everything! Until recently I have primarily collected ASEs. I started in 2003 after college and I am slowly working on buying back dates to complete a set. I have picked up a couple silver commerarives and ATB 5 oz coins along the way. But since finding this site I have started searching rolls not on a big scale yet. I am thinking about starting a set of Peace dollars as well since (I got a 1921 for Christmas when I was a kid so the coin has found memories for me).

Very nice! Since this is not a CRH find and you are asking about the grade, I have moved it a more appropriate forum for a wider audience.

WOW...what a nice find in a jar. With red showing in some of the devices, AU-53 for sure.

I can't quite catch up to the MS crowd but I can definitely get on the AU train with this one

I'm with the AUers I buy change from my wife. A few years ago she counted out all the change and in the cent stack there was a MS IHC. She's from London...knows nothing about US coins.
