This is a Cu-Ni 25mm token issued by British Rail, I believe during the late 60's or early 70's.

Can anyone tell me what it was used for please? It is certainly not a pay check.

Took a bit of researching this one; but I was curious too...

Apparently used for British Rail car parks...

The token was used when exiting a British Rail car park and allowed the barrier to rise when put into the machine. I think they were issued with your rail ticket and the idea was to stop people, other than those using the railway system, from parking in BR car parks where there were limited parking spaces available.

Mike.

P.S. you can upload your images to that site; they don't appear to have one of that token.

Thanks very much Mike. I will upload the images to that site. I have another BR token that is marked "BRADFORD EXCHANGE STATION", presumably also a car park token. Bradford Exchange closed in January 1973 so it must have been issued between 1965 when the double arrow emblem was introduced and 1973. Token is brass uniface, 27mm.

Yes I guess that's also a car parking token James; perhaps they all had their own individual ones at the beginning in brass and then later produced the cheap ones for the whole country.
