I told CaptWiffo that I would show before and after pics with my Verdi-Care experiment. Here's an 1865 before... Oregon coin geek.....*** GO BEAVS ! ! ! ***

I did get the mysterious white spot off using a dental pick very carefully. Not sure what that was.

Hopefully it's now protected from further corrosion. I have a bottle, but I've yet to use it. Thanks for the before/after pics.

Is there any hope for this coin or will this product just turn it black?

I got rid of the one spot at 10 oclock with using a dental pick very carefully. I've probably rubbed a bit too much on the arrows trying to get rid of the green corrosion but I think it looks better....

Haha Muddler, I did happen to try it on one of mine like that. No luck.... Dang it, I deleted the before pic. Looked the same though.

I've been experimenting with Dellers Darkener too. That stuff's pretty cool actually. I had gotten some Indians off ebay that arrived looking like brand new pennies. They dont look so gaudy now.

It does the best on thin layers of verdigris or oxidation. To get some of the crustier bits, I'll poke at them with a soft plastic toothpick or thorn or something while the solution is on the surface to avoid damaging the patina or create scratches from rubbing.

Here's a 1901 that I bought off ebay for a couple bucks that arrived looking like a brand new penny. Obviously dipped. I'm experimenting with Deller's Darkener. doesn't look too bad now...

After... I probably scrubbed a bit too hard. That junk just doesn't wanna come off.

Yeah, don't scrub. There's only so much that can be done for big hardened chunks of corrosion. At the most, poke at it.
