I was big on thematic pieces years ago, now enjoyed by my grandkids. I lost count after 200, and that didn't include reptiles or birds or fish. They had their own binders. I think I had like 40 dogs alone. My wife sort of got burned out on flowers when I butted in.

I notice that H.M. the Q. is featured on the obverse of some of them. Yep! You are definitely right. H.M. the Q. is just like the rest of us - we are all classified as animals! In our case, Homo Sapiens.

Tamshowoff Quote: Just curious what kind of animals are on coins. I'm including foreign coins in the bunch. You might like to check this site out www.coinzoo.net/

I seem to recall an elephant being used on an earlier European piece like a penny or something, but I can't seem to find any information on it. In any case, if my half-memory is correct it is now worth a tidy sum.

Svslav posted several pieces including an Isle of Man crown with a cat. Man issues a different crown each year with a different breed of cat on it. I think I'm up to 28 different breeds now.

I counted 19 Manx cat crowns in my collection, though I guess I missed the fact that these are supposed to be circulating coins which IOM crowns are not.
