Why is it that Walking Liberty halves, 1941 - 1947 are sometimes considered a separate set from the previous years?

I know dansco and Whitman both make separate nooks for these two date sets, but I don't understand why.

Can anyone shed some light for me?

I have the two Whitman albums with three holes in the early set with many I would like to up grade. I would say that the short set (41-47) is easier to obtain in higher grades so one could assemble the newer ones in BU and the older album in circulated.

All the new Albums from Whitman contain all the years. I suspect that the ones prior to those were made in two only due to size. And since you couldn't add pages to those older types, they could make more money selling two Albums rather than one. At least with Whitman Albums there is a planned system where you have all slots accounted for with a ooin for each one. Dansco Albums get me mad with the usual empty slots at the end as if they didn't know how many coins would make an Album.
And remember the older Whitman types for lincoln cents too were from 09 to 40, 41 to present. Jefferson nickel Albums were from 38 to 64 and then 65 to present.
Not sure but I suspect it was a method to sell more Albums.

Carl thats silly! The extras are for extra coins. Have you never upgraded? The old coin moves to the end of the lineup waiting to be traded or sold. 'Ladies in Waiting' LOL
Thats what I like about the Dansco. I have extra blank pages in my Morgan albums for my lesser grade Carsons that I have decided to keep.
As far as scheming ways to get us to buy more albums and pages, I agree they are good at that!

The Whitman album I have is from the 60's. Got it at a show for 5 bucks and it makes sense that to keep the albums all the same size, they dis 2 books. Thanks guys, you answered my question.
