Bought this 1858 O recently, it is in a NGC holder. What you grade this and is it problem free? It is a little dark and the light spot to the lower left of the coin is due to my novice photography skills and is not on the coin. Thanks, Joe

nice half.it appears to have had a light cleaning before if you look on the field on the obverse and reverse it seems to have some rub.but I dont think that is enough to give it a details grade at all.I still think it is a nice problem free coin.it looks to have nice original surfaces.just my opinion.i think it is a nice MS61.

I think I'm going to go with AU-58. There is slight wear on her fingers. On the Obv I'm wondering if there is residue corrosion, although I think it is a problem free coin.
I am by no means an expert, however.

Thanks for the replies I will post the NGC grade Monday evening. Just started getting some nicer seated examples for my collection after collecting lower end type coins for several years.

Well the coin dealer that I frequent has a few that I might not be able to resist in his display case including a 1854 which is the same grade as this one. I have a few more in XF which I believe are problem free. Are you working on a 7070 Type Set? Your posts seem to suggest that. I have most of the pieces together for my type set but am leaning against cracking them out the ones in slabs. I might create a digital type set and post it on CCF someday. I'm really glad I found this place, I have learned a lot already.

Am I working on a 7070? Technically.. although I dont intend to buy/fill a Dansco. I just want to collect a nice slabbed example of each type. So I'm doing a type set but I am not going to crack out my coins. I want Seated Liberty halves and types : P and 2.5$ gold indians later on I'd like to eventually get all my Seated halves graded and maybe do a ngc registry

I see slight wear on breast, thigh, and eagle talons. Some luster is present and I don't see any problems. Looks solid for AU, maybe AU-53 or AU-55. I don't see a mint state coin based on these images.

It was graded by NGC as a AU-55 although I would be happy even if it was a AU-53.

Joe2007! I'm glad to see an AU-55 for this one. (I was leaning that way but then I saw you'd posted the actual grade, so the grade guessing got really easy really fast!). It is a nice example of an awesome coin type! I really like the coloring! Please keep posting your Seated Half collection as it grows!

Thanks, Moe I have look through your days of threads and all I can say is . I'm in my early twenties and hope that I eventually assemble a collection that is half as nice as yours, it was part of my motivation to get a few decent Seated halves for my own collection. Here is some more pics as requested; this 1854 O I got about a year ago. Not quite as nice as the 1858 O but IMO its a nice problem free XF I believe.
