I've had an issue with buying coins -- as hard as I try, I can't seem to come to terms with parting with more money than the melt value of the coin.

With that said -- I've always loved coins.

It's a real catch 22.

Any who -- I made the leap. It's a rather small one, but it was a safe one for me.

Picked up the following:

1986 ASE Proof (in original packaging)
2010 W $5 Gold Eagle NGC PF 70

I paid a bit of a premium for both ($75/$250, respectively,) but it felt like a safe way to get me over the hump of silver/goldbug to coin collector.

Everyone should now gear up for a ton of questions, as I'm sure I'll start having more and more as I continue to add to my collection :)

Thanks to everyone for the advice over the past couple of months -- it's been much appreciated.

Ian

Congrats on the jump over. Now you need to look into circulating coinage, since those are more like bullion collector coins.

Congratulations on making a step into coin collecting from bullion stacking. It will open your collection to many attractive designs that America has coined over the years and if you continue with silver and gold issues you still will be "stacking" in a sense.

I see you bought more bullion. Now what coins did you get?

Congratulations. The next step is to resist selling them the next time precious metal prices have a good jump.
