I don't know if anybody posted a link to this article on here; if somebody already did then the Mods can feel free to delete this. Interesting article on the plague of counterfeiting current circulating coins, especially in the UK and Canada. Talks about how there are no government safeguards in place here in the US to keep the same thing from happening if and when dollar coins begin to circulate freely here.

The safegard is called the Secret Service, and I'm pretty sure that there will be a ramp up once the switch is made. This is why learning about fakes is so important in the first place.

It's an ambitious plan, but there's a hidden catch: Adopting $1 coins may leave a half-billion-dollar hole in our pocket -- from counterfeiting.
It is almost as if they want us to believe that the one dollar bill has never been counterfeited.

I've found a counterfeit Australian 2 dollar coin in circulation so they do exist.
