This was probably the best coin from the lot I mentioned in my previous post... I'm thinking a Constantius victory commemorative of some sort? My scanner doesn't do it enough justice, it looks much better in hand.

That's an interesting portrait--I could not find a similar coin.

This is actually Constantine the Great.
There are several varieties depending on the legend break, helmet design, and altar inscriptions.
Someone may have time to find the exact attribution, if not, I can check it out later.
Very nice example too!
Cheers,
-Kurt

Its a very nice example - I've found a reference to 'RIC VII Siscia 50' but I don't think that's correct, I've had trouble matching what I think the mintmark is 'DeltaSIS'? Constantine is holding a spear with (I think) a shield on his shoulder. The high crested helmet looks great! These can often be mis-identified as the design of the alter varies a lot - yours looks to be a simple 'X' but again, unfortunately I cant tell for sure. Whatever it is it looks great and the bust is fantastic, these are quite scarce, you have a very nice example

This is a very nice example of a Constantine I billon Argentus. A person can make a whole collection of just this coin type alone based on it's numerous helmet designs. I've been looking for an example with the CHI-RHO on the helmet for a long time now.

I think Bobby has it right with RIC VII 50.
However, after a mind boggling search on Helvetica's pages, the mint mark would have to be BSIS* or DeltaSIS* to fit the correct legend break of CONSTANTI-NUSAVG for this reference.
Does anyone else see a star in the mint mark? I think I do but I have been known to make stuff up in my mind (just ask my wife)
Cheers,
-Kurt

That is just awesome. I learn something new all the time on here myself. I paid $22.50 for the lot of 10 this came in. Is that a typically fair price for pieces like this? Regardless of price I'm very glad I came across such a nice example.

I think you did very well, this coin alone is worth what you payed for all ten.

Quote: I paid $22.50 for the lot of 10 this came in. You did good, as echizento says this coin is worth $22.50 alone, the rest are all bonuses
