Without explaining too thoroughly as to why I'm doing this...to keep the coins from getting scratched, basically...does anyone know if Saran Wrap will damage Gold Coins in any way? Humidity is NOT a problem.

Thanks!

Deb,
I don't think it would hurt in the short run,but I would invest in some relatively cheap airtites. You dont have a vacume food sealer do you? I use that on some of my bulk coins.

I don't get it. Why use saran wrap when you can buy airtites? They are gold right? If it is pure gold, you can pretty much scratch it with your fingernail so do watch out.

Mila,
Your Welcome. I store a lot of things with the sealer, documents, rare books, coins. Sometimes even food.

I have a question about the vacuum sealers. Will the plastic stick to paper money? The reason I ask is one time I, without thinking I guess, laminated a few 100 and 50 dollar bills for a display I was doing. Well, to make a long story short, I had to make a very embarrasing trip to my bank and explain why plastic was stuck to my bills. They did replace my money, but I will admit I did hear some snickers in the background.

I do not want to go through that again.....but wonder about sealing up uncirculated bills.

Vacuum seal? That might serve my purpose a little better. I would love to use air tites but, they don't fit into where I'm putting the coins and I'm trying to keep the coins, yes Gold, from clinking together. Maybe the wrap will work for a very short term until I can purchase a vacuum sealer and then take extra slips that I have, vacuum seal them and then cut them smaller. All of my collectors gold coins are in air tites but, for this "project" I just can't use them. For security reasons I don't want to disclose what I'm doing with the coins but, it's a project of my Husbands for our retirement years.
