I don't get how anyone could be naive enough to spend $67 shipped for a $25 box of pennies.

When I read this I thought it might have been a link to one of my penny auctions! I have two boxes of 1959-1982 up as bullion. However, I actually try and give people a deal and not rob them as this seller has done. All of my copper boxes of cents are significantly under melt. Seems like people buy those types of listings even at the current melt price. If they buy regular bank boxes for $70+...never mind. It makes my brain cry. Crazy, crazy people out there.

Quote: When I read this I thought it might have been a link to one of my penny auctions! I don't think there's anything wrong with selling coppers. Do I think buying copper pennies is a good investment strategy? No. Will I sell copper pennies to someone a a premium? Yes. If nothing else, it significantly reduces the amount of pennies I have to dump. But so much money for a bank box? Even if your bank charges a fee for a box, it is still way cheaper.

As crazy as it seems, some people may not know that you can get boxes at the bank. I never knew until I started collecting and read the forums here. Or it may be somebody in a small town, where they have just cleaned out their banks for cents, and want coins from other parts of the country.
Or it could be a rich person who doesn't care about money and just wants to save time from not having to drive to the bank. The possibilities are endless. I don't think it is wrong to sell these boxes though. I would... but i'd rather search my boxes.

I posted about the same thing a cpl weeks ago. Somebody won a listing for a sealed box of pennies for $152.00.....unreal. Oh yeah, have to add in the 15 dollar shipping fee. 280839308020

The thing that some of you are forgetting is that not everyone can go to a local bank or credit union and get a box of coins. I have lived in a few areas that the local banks either did not sell or have enough rolls to get a box. To someone out there, it truly is worth the price of buying it and also, how many people are misreading the information and think it is going to be completely old coins and not just common.

wow amazing maybe the person who (won - can I really use that word in this instance ) the auction lives in a town where the local stores are miles away I used to know this girl her nearest supermarket was 90 mins away! ok wait for it wait for it - otherwise this doesn't make any "cents" and yes I had to go there

You have got to be kidding me...
That's it! The world has gone mad.
I just sincerely hope it's someone from Europe or somewhere else where US pennies are scarce. At least that would make *some* sense...

Maybe they want to roll hunt but can't physically get to a bank?
When I had surgery on my knee and wasn't able to move around much I would have gladly over paid for some services. Sometimes convenience trumps costs. They may know they are overpaying and probably aren't looking to turn a profit as much as use the box as entertainment.
