Poll Question
I went to a couple of banks today and almost all of them had no halves. One bank had 5 loose halves, so I bought them and all clads. Another bank had 16.50 worth of halves and they were clads once again. Even knowing that it's going to be hard finding any silvers, I was still a bit distressed that I couldn't find at least one. But I have a question for all of you guys,(and girls), ..... Who here struck silver their first time asking banks for halves? Found this half a couple days ago. I picked up rolls from a US Bank. Only 40% silver, but I'll take it.

I don't think it worth the time. I own a car wash and probably get over $1000 a month in .25's it has been almost a year since I pulled a silver coin out of the trap. That being said I do find silver War Nickels all the time in my drops with the occasionally silver quarter. I think that by now most have been pulled from circulation one way or another.

I didn't vote because I have been pulling silver out of coin rolls since the early 60's when I pulled the Barber and Walking Liberty halves out and re rolled the Franklins to turn back in. But that aside, I go through half rolls constantly and get some silver almost every week. Some weeks maybe one or two coins, some weeks as many as 10 or more. There are still lots of silver halves out there in people's dressers and piggy banks and as these hard times continue, they are being rolled up and turned in at the banks.

I voted yes, but actually, it took a couple of days. The very first bank I went to told me they keep the silver! A few banks later, I found a '68 and a '64 from one teller. I've been hooked ever since. I found two Franklins and a 40% couple weeks ago, and thought that was as good as it got. However, I bought several hundred bucks in CWRs at a small bank this week. I found TWO DOZEN silver halves, all but one of them 40%.

First time ever, the bank had no halves so I had them get $100 of halves put together from their other branches and scored 1 64 and 1 67 from that.

Went back to NYC and stopped in a bank and they had $7.50 in halves and 12 were 40% silver. Been back a half a dozen times since and each time got nothing.

I was into roll searching back in the 1990's. Most of my first silver coins (all denominations) came from rolls, not purchases. My Franklin half dollar collection was built from roll searching, either directly (from the roll finds) or indirectly (by trading duplicate silver finds for the ones I needed).

I voted yes but truly I wish that the answer really is "sometimes". Yesterday I went to my bank and asked if they had any "funny money" (their terminology). The came out with $4 in Susan B' and $5 in '64 halves. So it was a good hit, but there was a fellow there who said the he had a lot more at home and wanter me to go with him. I didn't.
This was really lucky, as a lot of the time I get skunked..

I've only gotten a few 40%ers out of my loose coin hunting from the teller's---then again they rarely have halves

I have a good relationship with the bank one of my businesses banks at -- and they ordered me $2,000 in halves. I pick them up this Friday.
I was told they've been sitting in one of their vaults for years now, and they have about $10,000 more.
I'll post my results when I'm done searching :)
