Got $320 in halves yesterday and found 13 40% and 2 90%(64 JFK and 62 Franklin). Not too bad I guess.

Well I took a break from searching rolls due to money being tight. Finally was able to pick up some stuff just before christmas. One roll of halves resulted in a one 40%. $100 in nickles resulted in almost a full roll of pre-1960 nickles. The 3 bundles of pennies were a bust. I've not found any wheat pennies in a while now. Not searched the bundle of dimes but they are next.
Does anyone else even search nickles? I know silver was only for a few years.
Time to see if can get the bank to order me some boxes of halves. By time they get here I should have my tax refund.

Nickels are great to search! Yes the silver coins were only during the war years but the design hasn't changed noticeably for a long time. The silver ones look just like the other ones if you don't know what you're looking for. Again, because the design hasn't changed, it's easy to find early nickels in the fifties, forties and even the thirties.

Maybe you were shorted in your rolls when you bought them. It has happened to me twice from a sealed brinks type of box. Or the counter is off. Did you complain to the merchant teller? Probably not much you can do now about it. I would go back and talk to someone and ask if the next time you bring in a bag or so if they could put in a new bag and zero out the counter. If you don't like the count ask to get it back or ask for a recount.
Probably was the counter, one of my local banks put an "out of order" sign on their counter. They found out that it was putting quarters in the susan b anthony bag and giving customers a dollar credit.

Bad day for my husband also. Whole box of halves and not a one any good. Hope this isn't a bad sign for him for the year. He doesn't need the disappointment.

I bought a box of Nickels on Monday, and it was awesome. I got 4 Buffalo nickels (2 undated, 1920, 1929 [my second of that date]) which is a personal best, as well as a nice BU 1953-D, and 3 foreign, plus 25 other pre-60's. The only thing that was missing were some War nicks; oh well, next box, right? Also went through 1500 in halves - first box had a 2003, 2nd box had a 40% showing - ended up having 1 Ben, 2 64's, 5 40%, 1 2006-D, and 1 proof (an 87-s), and the Third box... was a skunk. Cry ; Grin To a new year (and a great start) and a lot more old and silver coins for everyone!

I recently looked through some pennies and found 12 wheaties, the most important being a 1920-S because I needed that in one of my albums. Found 6 Canadian's too. I also checked $50 in nickels and found 21 pre-1960 nickels including a 1943-D (my first silver find from circulation! ) and a 1946-D that I would grade EF40. I also found a United Arab Emirates coin which I haven't researched yet but will try to update this with some info once I do. UPDATE: Found what it is,UAE km#5, http://(131231) Not Allowed - Auto-Removed /countries/coin.php?image=img3/62-5&desc=United%20Arab%20Emirates%20km5%2050%20Fils%20(1973-1989) (if that link is against rules, it can be removed) The only problem is I have no clue what year! What is 199^? It's much bigger than that, like an upside down V...

I just searched 27 rolls of Half Dollars and found 7 40%.
I was a little disappointed but not discouraged!
There were also some very nice mid-90's (no 'S's) that looked like they had never seen circulation.
Does anyone think they're worth hanging on to? I realize there's no silver in them, but maybe in 20 years they might have some greater numismatic value (?)
Thanks.

7 - 40% halves from half a box is pretty good. I would not save any of your mid 90's coins unless you want to try and put together a set for e-bay.
