Hummmm I think I should get some more half dollars. I have looked through 800 and found 7 %40 silver.
Also I'm going to get a few more dime rolls and nickel rolls.
Im getting kind of tired of only pennies

On average, how many silver coins do you guys average, let's say, per $100 in coins? My totals have been kind of skimpy for the past few attempts and I was just wondering if my initial finds were just beginners luck. How often do most of you hit the banks?

Welcome DOC, it is hard to average $100 but is bank wrapped rolls (lately) 3-4 per box of $500

I have searched $75000 +/- in the last year and pulled in about 1200 halves (1000 were 40%) the rest were walking liberty, franklins & JFK (and 1 barber!!)

GULP! $75,000 in halves? In ONE year? Holy cow! That's about $1500 a WEEK. I am truly impressed.

For those of you who get customer wrapped rolls, do you specifically ask for them? I would think that in this day and age all banks would unwrap them and count them before giving a customer cash, but I could be wrong.

Hello,

I as many as others have been loving this thread and have begun heavily searching many different types of coin rolls depending on my money situation at any given time. I feel bad exchanging out my halves at Commerce Bank however due to the fact their bags only hold $100 worth of halves. I had them switch out 3 bags one time and while this is their job, they are never too happy now to see me come through the door! Pennies, nickels and dimes are better since they don't cause as many problems however nickels and dimes have a low return in my eyes as % of interesting finds. Pennies you have to search a large volume but keeps you busy for the investment!

Any suggestions on turning over a lot of halves? I'm working on photographing my recent finds in my box of pennies I searched the past few days! Will post later!

Have you ever seen those gold candy coins in the mesh bags? I keep a stock of them in ME truck and always hand them over (but only to the ladies), tell them thanks for the help, coins are heavy. How do you think they feel whan I come in with $1500-2000, they like ME very much cause I'm the candy man haha. Don't get the ones at the Dollar store- they taste like wax, I get mine from Party City and they are good chocolate, they're $.99 each and cost ME $10-20 a week with all the buying and dumping I do but I enjoy it and its good PR. I would try to find a different bank with a real coin counter if I was you, the ones I use hold $1000 and that needs changed every time at least once every dump I make. HH Mark

I went through $100 of nickels today and found a pretty nice selection. Got about 20 or so pre-62's including a silver 45-P. The front was pretty nice but the back was all teared up (no steps at all) I also went through $60 worth of Halves and came up with my first ever 1967...made my day :)

As far as asking for a fresh bag in the counter, no I have never done that, better take candy if you do that. More than likely you had a few short rolls and maybe one or two got stuck inside the counter. I'm not so concerned over a few coins, I buy bags from coin counters when I can, sometime they are short cause of stray quarters and a penny will get counted as a half- sometimes they are long a buck or two, I don't count them like some do. Last night got a Susan B in a fed roll but noticed right off when I openned the box one roll was short so it evens out. Good luck with the coin counter and HH, Mark

I have been looking at this thread for a few months and it has me searching rolls again. I wanted to say hi and introduce myself. I have been collecting graded coins for a while since I have more income after college. Searching rolls has taken me back to the fun days of my youth and I have some great finds. I have searched $2000 in halves in the last 2 weeks I have come up with 1 64' and 20 40%'s. I looked through around 500$ in dimes and have come across 1 silver dimes. Halves seem the best return on this point. Its always great getting coins worth several times face and making money this way while not spending 100's to upgrade my other coins.

Quick story I used to go to the local bank and get rolls of pennies. A few wheats here and there but one feb day I got my 20$ of pennies ( this is 1991-2) I found 3 rolls of solid wheats I had to beg my grandparents for money to go back to the bank. I asked for every roll that had that same account number on it. I ended up with 90$ worth of solid wheats. Some semi key dates several 1957's ms65-67 which I got graded. when I was done I went to the local coin shop and they gave me 4 cents per wheat for the rest. Then about 2 years ago the same bank I was looking for halves and dollars for poker game. I got so much silver and ikes I didn't even use them It was great. Not a bad haul.
I agree if you have a few down weeks or get skunked keep searching the worst thing that can happen is you have to change it in.
My bank and I have a good relationship and they can get me pretty much all the halves I want which is nice. The Dunbar people get ticked bringing them out 2 times a week. The tellers have told them that I am a young kid looking to fill my collection...I am 28 hehehe. That seemed to make them not as agitated.
I change my coins out at commerce bank. It does make them upset changing thousands in coins a week. However I opened an account they gave me $20 and don't seem to mind now that I am a customer.
Another grand in halves is on its way Friday I am pumped. I will tell you how I do.

I will list the numbers searched and my finds.
nice meeting everyone look to hear how everyone does. Happy hunting

Looked through $210 in halves yesterday. Nada! I guess if it was easy, everyone would be doing it. When I started coin roll hunting I really hit the ground running but now the silver finds are tapering off. Hope the dry spell doesn't last.

Only because I've seen a couple people mention swapping out coins, I'll repeat this.

NEVER BRING THE COINS BACK TO THE BANK YOU GOT THEM FROM!!

It will only upset the tellers and they will stop accomodating you eventually. The best solution is to bring them to another Bank entirely (even if you have to open a savings account), but for small quantities, you can probably get away with bringing them to another branch.

What I do is to chose one bank branch and take all my coins there and then get my coins from all the branches in town. For the most part the coins will stay in that one branch and I wont be searching coins twice.
