Unlike ME_CO and some others, I have little luck searching halves. I checked $100 today and nothing, el skunko! I've checked nearly $500 worth and haven't found a single silver yet. I also checked $20 in nickels today and found 3 pre-1960, a 1965 that seems uncirculated but has a touch of corrosion (how to get that off?), and a 1976D that's heavily toned but I think it's artificial - I think somebody took a lighter to it, but it still looks pretty cool. I like searching, but not finding silver is annoying. I've found a War Nickel, but not silver half dollar! I'd take some proofs, or even fillers for my half books ... :-(

A couple of hours later they called me back and told me it would be $10 a box charge for a special order item.

I know exactly which bank I would be using to drop of boxes of halves!

Personally I just look for the silver, 1987, proofs, and anything unusual while date searching, in that order. I got into this as a way to invest, the cheapest way I could. I spend alot of time and yea I burn some extra gas but I am having fun and have even made some money at it. I don't think it would be fun to examine every coin with a 10X loupe. I did find this a few monthes ago, no loupe required. HH all, Mark

I searched $300 in dimes this weekend and found 4 silver(59, 2 62, and 64). After all the halves I've been searching w/ no luck, this was a relief...and my parents bank at one w/ a counter so I dragged my dad w/ me to deposit them so it worked out great! :) My dad kept looking around as we dumped $800.00 worth of halves and dimes into the machine like we were going to get into trouble or something? LOL

Yes, it seems that I've found my new "dumpground" for the halves. And they thought ordering them would be a hassle. LOL

do you bring them wrapped or loose? I've only taken mine to BOA once, and they had to bag them, send them off to get counted, and THEN I would get credited.

Another day at the silver mine, 4 boxes netted (22)40%ers, (2)'64's, (2)'63 Bens and (1)'44S Walker. Not bad considering two of the boxes were skunks.

Glad to hear that people are still finding silver out there in their rolls. It gives me hope. I'm also glad to hear that I'm not the only one getting skunked out there. Not that I'm wishing that on anyone. It's just good to know that my bank isn't the only one that appears to have dried up of any silver. I hope the finds keep coming your way.

I've come to the conclusion that either someone new works where they are rolled, or they got a new machine that somehow catches silver b/c when I first started about a year ago, my first 6 boxes were decent....ever since then, nada, zilch, zero. Same wrapping, same boxes, but nada. Extremely frustrating, and now making me want to start looking at maybe nickels or dimes.

thomas_z71- this doesn't look good for me, because my first two bank wrapped boxes of halves are coming most likely from the Dallas, TX area. I'm in Shreveport and they usually get their stuff from Dallas. I'll ask when I pick up my boxes.

Well, I bank at BOA, and from what I've been told, they have their own little "vault" in Dallas that has coin. I think it's someone within BOA, not collectors in the Dallas area, b/c like I said, my first few boxes had 15-20 silvers/box. When you get your boxes, take a pic of the outside, and send it to me, and I'll see if that's what mine look like. Good luck.
