You might be in luck because of the state you are in. One lady that coin roll hunts lives in New Orleans area and does VERY well. Even though you are on the other side of the state you should do good. Try going on trips and hit up the small town banks.

When you hit up these small town banks, do you just walk in w/ cash ready and ask if they have any halves? have you ever been denied even though they had some b/c you don't have an account there? Do you just ask if they have any half dollars? HELP! :)

Yes, all the time. No big deal. It may be new to you but to them they see it all the time. Worst that can happen? see below quote: have you ever been denied even though they had some b/c you don't have an account there?
Yes, it happens every now and then. Usually by an old biddy that make up her rules. The only one I remember vividly was when I approached a teller (male) and asked for halves and he pulled out several rolls, hand rolled in lined notebook paper with notes written on them. I pulled out my cash and another teller came up to him and questioned what I wanted. She then stuck her nose in and said I had to have an account. I said Ok, how much to open one? She said $500, no wonder these the whole bank was empty of customers. You would think they would want to get rid of coins no one else wants. She knew I was not a customer because I was not Chinese, they only have Chinese customers. (most Chinese banks in my area are stuck up that way, now Korean banks are completly different, very friendly and always have lots of halves and many times silver)

Thomas, I take them to a different bank that uses a different armoured service so as to keep the coins going away from ME, till someone buys them and dumps upstream from ME anyways. I put $6-700 in a canvas bag and carry 2 bags in at once, I do have an account at this bank and I always take in chocolate coins for the tellers to play with. Also I try to spread it out to different branches and try to not hit the same branch more than once a week- they can tolerate ME once a week. Tellers have to run them through coin counter and change the bag out every visit hense the candy. HH Mark

Oh see, my banks don't have the counters so they have to ship them off to get counted. I don't mind getting credited later, but its' kinda hard going w/o $1000 or so at a time, and then what if they don't count them right? seems like more of a pain to me than the bank.

Why not spend the halves and get them back into circulation? JAM them down the public's throat, I tell you! Just kidding. We do need to do our part in getting them back into circulation. Now I realize $1000 is a lot to put back into circulation, but it can be done $20 here, $10 there.
They simply must learn to make room for them in their cash register drawer, though. Most places have something in that slot, like bank-wrapped rolls of pennies and such, or paper clips.
Here's to getting JFKs back into circulation!

Buttered up the bank teller today with a some chocholates and some choc. coins.. I like the idea and all the tellers were smiling. I slipped in my request for a box of pennies in as well and tommorrow I am picking them up. This bank is interesting as it sounds different from other banks. They have a large stock pile of coins in the banks vault. They always have halves when I want them and full boxes of coins. Went to a Commerce today and they said they need to special order pennies. Oh well.. I will have fun hunting tomorrow and Friday!

The chocolate coins are great ain't they? Did you get the ones that look like gold Kenedy's? I always say something like here's something for you ladies to play poker with, then as I start to leave I'll turn real serious and say "Don't run them through the coin counter now, they'll gum it up and it won't work"- or after they bring them heavy boxes I'll give them the coins and call them vitamins. You will now be known as the candy man instead of that jerk who makes us carry heavy boxes and bags. HH Mark

Slim Pickins last night, only 2 40%ers out of two boxes- they both came out of one so the other box stunk. Don't have any on order for today (this is ME slow week) but 4 for Friday and 6 for Saturday, hope for some improvement. HH all, Mark

Hi, I am new to this board and found this topic to be interesting. I am going to take a stab at it and placed an order for $1000 in halves that will arrive next Wednesday. I will pick them at the bank then. Do you guys have any suggestions on how often to look or what denominations seem to produce the most silver or good finds? I am mostly interested in finding silver, but wouldnt be opposed to finding proofs and error coins.
Thanks

CoinHunter - Coins pre-1964 are 90% silver. 1964-1969 are 40% silver clads. Some good info. on what to save can be found in this thread: https://goccf.com/t/23986
