Since this is 2012, no less then the 100 year anniversary of the sinking of the R.M.S. Titanic, no doubt there is a few examples on the market to add to your collection I noticed....

Member here mentioned something to me about getting a roll of the plated ones, and I was like plated? The copper plated in silver are already listing in pre sales for 160 to 175 on running auctions as you may notice in the listings at the top of this forum, via the slide-show images. I figured that was for a roll of 20, NO just one coin lol....

The ones with limited coloring, with the waves around the ship an what not....

Anyhow, I was thinking more my speed along the pure silver rounds and I found these two most common in color an standard non color, and all for less then the above craziness unless I mis-understood the listing an they are in fact rolls of 20 being silver plated copper....

Here is one where you are paying a big premium for a port hole an fancy box display, lol....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Proof-Coin-...em1e6ca1e6a7

Tuvalu version....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tuvalu-2012...em256d873cc1

Non color more my speed as I avoid the above, even though I am sure they will increase in value down the road. Note it is a half oz. coin....

http://www.ebay.com/itm/SOLD-OUT-20...em46023ef829

I had about a dozen of the original 2012 twin tower rounds last year an did real well with them, as they bring 75 plus on average these days or more....

One would think a 100th year coin like this may appreciate on up in the years to come. Or would you guys disagree on this....

Not wanting to go into details, but I prefer the Canadian Titanic commemorative, too. Hopefully mint.ca is correct that they are not quite yet sold out... which means that I have a chance to buy another Canadian commemorative at what amounts to $128 CAD per ounce. Sigh.

Don't get me wrong. I'm a HUGH fan of the Canadian mint. They are just way too good at distracting me from my bullion buying.

I like that one as well CW, wished they made it in a 1 oz. version....

Hey thanks BF, the link I listed is for $113 shipped an that link is $105 plus shipping, so I doubt that guy there has much room at all, might be making a couple of bucks per transaction perhaps....

I would not mind getting a mix of the three above, an there are more colored high dollar ones on the market as well.....

If I was thinking bulk investment, I would like to get about 15 or 20 of each, mixed say for example who knows that would be a way costly endeavor. But again one that may really pay off one day if one was patient enough to stash away an forget about for a few years, something I am really lame at doing, lol....

Most likely I would end up just getting four or five different examples....

I don't think Tuvalu issues will have legs. Stick to oz, Canada and UK.

You're not a big world coin collector, are you? That's alright. I wouldn't know the slightest thing about pricing a Barber dime or Liberty dollar, either. For instance, did you know that Tuvalu doesn't actually make their coinage. It coins from the Perth Mint. They consistently put out wonderful work that's highly desired the world over. Matter-of-fact, one of the most collectible modern world coins that I can recall comes from Tuvalu. It's a single, 1 oz. coin, and it recently went for $1250. Personally, I think it's heinous, but taste can be an odd bed maiden.

Did you see the Cook Island version? I was blown away by the prices it's commanding. Can't say I like it, but I'd buy it for resale if the price comes down a little.

T I have seen that one as well, an not sure what they are going for with the round orange circle design, perhaps an impact of the iceberg....

As if the coin tells a story as it happened as the top ship is sailing along, impact, and the bottom ship is the way it appears today under the water perhaps, via 100 years of history....

I like those maple leaf with the privy mark as well Penny, and seems like they are ready bring a huge premium.....

Now showing as no longer available. Good to know, though...I had no idea that Canada Post sold coins as well.

I'm still hoping they have a few more available for sale soon at mint.ca. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Hawk,

Niue put out this one. I love the porthole packaging. Not a big fan of the coin, though. I have an older 1998 SML with a Titanic privy that's interesting. Not worth much, but I always liked it.

Last I checked, Oz, Canada and UK were all "world coins". Any country or wannabe country can make fancy coins, or have them made for them. The three I mentioned have long-time collector interest. I just don't feel there will be enough interest 20 years from now to maintain today's prices.

Even Canada, with millions of people and a world-wide collector base, is no guarantee of long-term value. When the 28 coin Olympic set came out, they were hot and expensive. Let's see what they had going for them:
  • Popular country
  • Popular topic
  • Silver

Over the years, they dropped below issue price. Silver value rescued them, but when it tanked, you could buy them for less than face value, even in Canada!

Bigg,

Absolutely. I couldn't begin to guess what the silver price will be in 20 years or if any of the coins from odd places that I like to collect will hold their value. It's not an issue with me because I don't plan on selling, anyway. I've only been collecting less than five year, myself. Definitely an amateur, and meant no disrespect.
