Yet another reason to avoid "Bank Against America" - on another note checkout Matt Taibbi article in the last weeks issue of Rolling Stone (Bruce Springsteenon cover) - amazing and scary story of how the banks have been messing with over American citizens for decades. Matt is one of my favorite authors on the political scene today. He pulls no punches and tells it like it is.

my two standard lines when picking up rolls: poker game; nephew/son/friend is working on the Boy Scout coin collecting badge (they have to assemble a date set from the year of their birth to present)

Wow I'm sorry that happened to you. I like to take some of my finds with me when I dump. It always disarms the tellers when you pull out a handfull of silver coins and say "wanna check out my latest finds". For me, it was 6 walking liberties today lol.
I actually have a great branch of BoA, where I get my coins, and today all the tellers ran over and checked them out (along with two other costumers). I ended up talking to the head teller there and I mentioned how another branch head teller was rude a few weeks ago, and she looked the name up and said not to worry because she just had an attitude problem. She went on and said that its their job to get coins for people, and that they can't charge people for coins.
I just cant believe people do 50k in halfs a week! Are these buisnesses or individuals with a lot of time, money, and lots of banks around?

No offense to those of you who are banned at certain banks, but I think ordering 50 boxes for one person is a little too much. most I have ever gotten from 1 bank at 1 time was 2 boxes, and I rarely do this. and like I said, the most I ever dump is 4 boxes at a time, and I make sure it is a mix of denominations so that they never have to change the bag more than once when I dump.

Quote: checkout Matt Taibbi article I just read some of his stuff and he is a bloody genius! This article *** Link removed - It is not Family Friendly and is way off topic *** about Bank of America was very interesting. I dont feel bad about getting some coins and bringing them back. With all the billions (yes with a B) lost I'm not sure how they can complain about losing a few bucks here and there. Sorry if this was too political.

Quote: Most banks will immediately require you to get a business account which has a fee. I have already heard of a bank teller not allowing a vending person to use the free coin counter because that bank requires vending businesses to bring the coin in and for a fee will convert it to cash. A friend had a pinball/pool table route, and it wasn't unusual for him to deposit over $1000 in quarters a day. He got grumbles from the bank with a commercial account, and despite the fact that he took in shotgun wrapped rolls done on equipment that was prolly better than they had! He even bought custom paper, so his name was on the rolls.

Amazing, but then, some will complain regardless of circumstances. I had only one person complain that I alway deposited coins to my savings account. When I stated that I would deposit whatever kind of money I choose into my account, the branch manager, who was close to the counter, asked the problem. I explained and she looked right at the teller and told her that she had no problem depositing coins to any account.
I think some folks with large egos and a small minds and drive just want to try and exert their influence on others. Just my opinion though.....

Oh, and by the way, I enjoyed that article in "Rolling Stone." It's been along time since reading that mag and it was both an enjoyable and "colorful" article on BOA.

I went to one of my cool coin counters today and they were cool. they actually had to change the bags twice because it was almost full when I got there. and it also froze like 10 times while I was dumping. I said sorry and he was like "naww, it's cool. it gives me something to do because I don't have to sit behind the counter all day and help people. I'm also getting paid so I don't mind". lol, that's the attitude I like!

Ok, my Two Cents. My bank has a free machine for customers and non customers. I only use the machine about once a week with a coffee can of cents or nickels, half the time the counter is down. Today I went and it was down because someone clogged up the counter with a couple thousand $ worth of half dollars. I asked if he was a bank customer and they said no. I think they got the point of me asking the question, as they know me as a good bank customer. Rudeness should not be tolerated, they are a customer service industry, but I'm the customer. Just my HO.

My TD trust bank is happy to give me coins. Me and the teller actually had a talk about coins and he didnt seem to care about what I was doing. He even told me too look on ebay (which I knew about...) but it was nice of him to give me some advice and get me the coins.

I usually get one box of nickels, dimes, and pennies each week. I call a day ahead so they can have them ready, and pick up the next day, it has never been a problem. I use US Bank. When I go to dump, I sort the coins into a few different plastic containers that stack so the teller can easily carry smaller amounts into the machine. There are no banks with a customer machines that I know of in my area (Oregon, anyone know of any?), and try to be as pleasant as I can when I bring them in. I have never had a problem dumping at the dump bank, but I always feel like my next trip in could be the one. I spread the dumping wealth, so I don't see the same bank more than 1 time in a month. I would search more, but always worry about the dumping...and I never have searched halves, so haven't had to get rid of those ever. I just wish we had the TD bank I hear about with the customer coin counting machines, that sounds like an easier way to go.

Back in 1982-1983 I managed a Bally's game arcade in a supermall, we did $4-8K per day, only we used tokens so I almost never had coins, only paper money, I never found a single silver quarter either, though we only kept around $200.00 in them. I mimagine if we had used quarters, I would've found a ton of them, and I looked too.

I know this is an older post. But I just wanted to put my 2 CENTS in.I take all my coins to Coinstar machines. They are located at Walmart and KROGERS.That way I also make sure I will not get my same coins back, since Brinks picks them up .The other day I put 11000 pennies,100 quarters 100,dimes and a few nickels in.No tellers to mess with...you can take your time and then just get your voucher out of the machine after you done and cash it in at the store.
