Attached is an SBA Cud Progression starting with very small Cud at K8 and at date area, followed by additional Cud at K2 with final stage at K11:30.

Way cool photos and a great set of coins!

How did you come to have all three?

Thanks for sharing.

I picked these up several years ago, 2 within 15 miles from my home and the 3rd at an ANA convention in Pittsburgh. Seems like this Cud series must have been released nearby for me to round these up so close to home.
Rest in Peace

I have a question and I might sound naive. my Cud book lists these as being from 1979. How do they know that if the last 2 digits of the date is all covered up.

I am pretty sure the Cud was discovered the 1st year the SBA was minted which would have to make it a 1979 since none were minted before and the 1980's weren't out yet. There also may have been some die markers but I think it was my first assumption.

Still interesting that ANACS defers to 'no date' and won't call them 1979's.

When I first saw this one I thought I figured the date out (of the above SBA) and that it was an earlier die state of the above coin, however its not in the right spot. :(

I have one of them too, on a near date. The above three Cuds aren't near date.

Beautiful progression...all in great shape as well! I've actually seen a photo of the middle one before, I think in Alan Herbert's Price Guide to Mint Errors.

Zimmy, WELCOME TO THE FAMILY!!

Now this is beautiful, I am researching the same topic, die failure progression, I love the entire, sometimes NOT easily seen progression of dies like the one(s) that you have shown.
Not an easy task to gather the progression like you have, keep up the Great work, Thanks for sharing,Good Luck, Mike.....

That $400 price tag seems way high for that minor a Cud (second ebay example).
