I see a very occasional 20-cent, but never a 50-cent, apart from the CoA.
And, what I see, I keep.

They are definitely harder to find. Particularly 20c!

Yeah, the Centenary of Federation 20 cents are getting a bit harder to find although I did pick up a WA one last weekend. It was knocked around but still worth keeping.

BJW,
I have a theory why you are finding them harder to find....
I think you are singlehandedly removing them all from the pool of coins in your area!
I think you wil be getting the prize for the "noodling frenzy".
I have a few more 20c and whatever I get hold of today, but I am pretty sure I won't be topping your effort.

ozcoins. I'm sure I was making them harder to find in my area. The last lot (the frenzy) I got from a different area and the number of federation coins were still relatively low. Everybody has been hoarding them and especially now. If someone sees one it is quickly removed from circulation (I call it the "I haven't seen one of those for a while" syndrome).

I was just lucky with the frenzy. I had already ordered some coins and then the contest was announced. I don't search through that many coins very often (only had the money due to wedding saving and pay day).

As they all have mintage figures in the vicinity of 2 million a piece, they are very low for starters, so to find them in current circulation is no mean feat, particularly so for the 20c due to the relative mintages (no doubt a few more years of 40+ or 100+ million releases will enforce this), but even the 50c is generally found as less than 1 in 100...

The feeling of finding a wavy 66 far outweighs that finding an incuse ozcoins so you should switch to 20c for a while.

I am sure that is true, but I really like the 50c coins and I think it may take me a while to find a wavy....

I would say that most people would not look at their coins so wouldnt know what they are, except numistists, some even class them as foreign coins. I see the Northork Islands 20 c the most.

Or has it? People are still bidding ridiculous prices. [But I don't mind.] http://offer.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISA...260994300240
I sold an uncirculated set at the markets this morning.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/25101476581....m1559.l2649

A couple of times in recent months a 20¢ CoF circulated set (+ Bradman and Platypus) has fetched over $50!

I find NSW (20¢ and 50¢) very over-represented in noodling finds; WA 20¢ and Norfolk 50¢ also turn up in high numbers. Norfolk 20¢ are hardest to find (also Queensland and Victoria seem low numbers). South Australia 50¢ are l,owest number there with ACT not much better.
Total numbers of CoF I have found from my regular bag purchases have dropped by nearly 50% in last six months.

I am just about to list some 20¢ sets on the forum for sale to see if any interest.

Jeff
