That's definitely among the most interesting damage I've seen done to a coin.

I've seen ones like this before. Very interesting.

Here's some: http://www.early-copper.com/gear.html

I might bid on it

It would be fun to buy an old machine and find that used as a gear.

I've heard of sawbucks before but first time I saw a sawpenny.

I know ... it's a cent not a penny!

Maybe used in a clock as a replacement gear?

I'd like to meet the person that spent so much time making that thing. Sure had to be for something that parts are just not avalable anymore.

That is one interesting cent. It was probably done well over a 100 years ago. I think it is worth a couple of dollars or so, but not worth much more than that. If you like it, then bid on it.

That's very steam-punk. I can just picture some goggled, Victorian, steam-era inventor machining coins into gears for his gyrothorpe or whatever.

A couple years ago, my local shop's bid board had a 3 Cent Silver that was carved into a gear. It was a tiny little thing and someone bid it up to $20, much higher than my measly $10 bid

How cool would it be to have a clock where all the gears were made from coins with teeth cut into them?

At first I was in shock, but then I started to appreciate it for what it was.
