Ok, I have more then a few Morgans. I was hooked on '21 wide reeds for a while and I have only been able to attribute one or two different VAMS. Is there an order to looking for them? Do you start with cracks, and go from there? What is the best process to sifting through the numerous VAMS?

SuperDave would be the best resource for questions about the 1921 Morgans. He'll be along shortly.

I spend 99% of my time with the other end of the Morgan spectrum ... 1878. I'll also dabble in 1880's, and 1891-O's. There is a methodology involved and it's almost universally identifying prominent pick-up points (PUPs). For example, when I look at 78-S Morgans I first review the reverse to see if it's a long-nock or a short-nock, then is the 'r' in Trust broken or unbroken. Then I look at the obverse to see if the fourth right star is broken or unbroken. With this knowledge I can eliminate greater than 75% of the possibilities. Each year and mint is different, so you'll have to do some self-discovery. The year/mintmark pages on VamWorld are now recognizing these sort opportunities and provide hyperlinks on the page for users to sort by PUPs. Look for the blue text on the page and click on it.

Also don't be shy about posting pictures of the coins here for attribution. It serves two functions ... answering your question "What VAM is this?", and it's a learning tool for others.

I recently found this VAM-1A2 "TRU-T" and was also informed that there are only 29 of them that were graded.

and yes, SupeDave is the 1921 Morgan VAM expert on this site. I've tried identifying a couple of mine and got lost in the list.
