Spent a half along with some bills to pay for groceries.

Had a $7.50 fine for overdue books at the library and paid with a $5 bill, two Sacs, and a Kennedy half. The employee paused at the Sacs for a second and then began to study the half. I told him it was worth 50¢ and he gave me a "Mmm-hmm" without raising his eyes. I tried to lighten the mood by saying "Just trying to mix things up" with a smile but he kept a straight face and just said "I'll be right back".

Instead of walking to the register I usually see them go to (I'm a habitual offender) he walked over to a lady who was sitting at a desk. They were out of earshot but I saw him motioning to the money in his hand. A second later the lady takes the $5 bill and held it up to the light, I'm assuming to look for the security thread. When she verified that I had, in fact, paid with genuine currency, the guy went over to the register and then came back with my receipt. All he said was, "Ok, you're all set."

I try to keep track of all the dollar coins and $2 bills I spend. I get a receipt and mark what type was spent. I also keep a running balance of each type.

If I go on a trip and can't quite keep-up with what was spent, I can subtract what's left to see what I spent.

Most times I know what I purchased, but a few times I have had to add in "purchases" that I forgot to note.

I spent five dollar coins at a coin show to buy examples of the Perry's Victory and Great Basin quarters, and the 2013-P and D Native American dollars. Afterwards, I stopped by an orchard to buy two quarts of cider and paid my $4.75 bill with five dollar coins. The young cashier said, "Wow, you don't see these every day." I replied, "Unless you're riding the T in Boston." She came back with, "True" and put them in the till. The counter had a sign that said, "We Need Ones" so I'm wondering if there's a chance they'll go out in change as the day goes on.

All said, I spent a total of $10 in dollar coins.
