And everything else...
Not a single piece of silver in all my life after loads and loads of coins rolls, both in Canada and USA...
Now what do I do? I live near Vancouver, so I go down south into the states for shopping sometimes. I ask for Kennedy halves and Oversized Dollars all the time at People's Bank of America. Their service is neither sincere nor reliable.
First of all, I figure that the tellers of the bank keep most of the halves and oversized dollars themselves. I have no problems with that, however, earlier this week when I went there, the teller didn't even want me to take a peek at the halves they have. I asked for all on her counter, but somehow, the teller took some of the halves on the counter to somewhere else, so I couldn't purchase them.
At that moment, I believed the chief teller was at the back and staring angrily at my teller. (Maybe at her extremely awful manner) My teller noticed him. Using this chance, I asked for oversized dollar. (In the past, I've only received one from 1977, MS 63) My teller first said no, then, the chief teller told her to go to the back, and that's where he got me two Eisenhower dollars from 1972, EF45 max. Overall, I never have any good chance with that.
I am definitely not content about my past visits. Now, what do I do? Try a new, smaller bank? The problem is, they might request accounts. Does Washington Federal work? Please leave suggestions.

Sounds like you haven't hit enough banks. When I first started about 5 years ago, I would hit every bank on the strip. Sure, a couple asked for account ID, but many did not. I may have been a bit lazy when I say that I'd hit 15-20 diff banks in a day. I would rinse and repeat in 2 weeks. Or, i'd try a new town.
When I listen to LED ZEPPELIN...so do my neighbors...
Roll hunting since '77
Dirt fishing since '72

One thing we all forget....banks are not in the coin collecting business. They have zero obligation to entertain our requests, just feel lucky you get anything at all and always say thanks and never make a fuss.

If you had to cost your efforts just to find silver coins, your labour is being spent inefficiently.
Fortunately for most roll hunters, picking up silver coins is only one (small) motivation for roll hunting. I hope your luck so far does not stop YOU.

I agree with you.

Well, I don't hunt rolls that much due to the bit of time I have. However, when I go down to the State, I bring an album with me. I try to make a set of halves. However, silver is still the primary focus in my mind. I only go to the states once each half month, so labour isn't a big deal. I spend the ones I don't need, and keep the ones I need.

I frequent a bank that has hundreds of Eisenhowers. They hate the things and are happy to give them away. I have taken about 50 of them. None silver, the lead teller is a smart cookie.. but even the clad ones are hard to find.
The lead teller said a guy brought in like 3,000 of them and she had to count them by hand.

Peter,

I pull hundreds of dollars in halves for silver, and dozens of Ikes, all the time. If you ever get down Oregon way, let me know, and I'll stockpile some for you. You won't get any silver, but if you are working on half dollar books, I can help. I regularly toss NIFC Kennedy halves back in the machines.

How do you know if your Eisenhowers are silver?
I think I've got some luck. I tried the Bank of America, and they had two boxes of halves. I couldn't take all due to the amount of cash I brought to USA. I got several rolls. The teller guaranteed me there weren't be any silver, however, the customer before me was also a collector, and I believe he took some silver (probably Peace dollars)away. This was a good sign.

All Eisenhower dollars with an "S" mintmark above the date are silver, proof, or silver proofs. If it doesn't have the "S" mintmark, it is a clad business-strike coin.
