Priced at $49, labeled as "BU" with the dealer also selling clad Ikes for $1.50 (I think), I shot him $50 and got a clad Ike & this gal:

Its hard to tell from the pics, but with the edge toning I'd say natural surfaces and I don't see any ware, just what looks to be some soft striking in the usual areas. I'd say you didn't do bad at all for a nice BU Morgan.

The glare does make it hard to tell but assuming that it is BU and that there are not too many marks then I'd say you got a fair deal.

Nope, not very many marks.

A little rocking & rotation reveals what I think to be cartwheel lustre, a linear band of brightness that spins relative to the devices of the coin.

A cleaned coin will not have cartwheel lustre, right?

Good price for both. Common date Morgans in the lower MS grades run from $45 to $60 depending on the dealer. And yes a cleaned coin will not have cartwheel luster. They're usually removed when dipped or polished.

Try using a diffuser or indirect lighting when shooting. The coin looks good and congrats on catching the Morgan feavor. I've had it for years.

From your photos it looks polished and if so, no good.

Dipping a coin once or twice will not remove, but could slightly diminish, cartwheel luster. If a coin has been dipped 10 or more times the luster may start to dull.

It looks nice, but the hair above the ear in the picture puts it in the AU category, I believe.

Looks a little AU to me also.
Rest in Peace

A couple of better pictures of her, I think I've found some good spots to place my coins and times of the day to take my pictures:

If the reverse looks like that, you have a nice, original MS coin.
Congrats on the purchase!
