Not sure how much you know about the piece, so the following may or may not be helpful to you.
The medal was struck by Mayer & Wilhelm of Stuttgart, Germany. It is actually an adaptation of a medal they struck for the 1892 Italian-American Exposition held in Genoa, Italy. The portrait obverse on the I-AE medal is similar to the Columbian Exposition piece, but the inscriptions are in Italian. The I-AE medal featured a reverse inscription indicating is was a souvenir from the Italian-American Exposition vs. the World's Columbian Exposition and the eagle on your medal was the coat-of-arms of the city of Genoa on the I-AE medal.
In addition to bronze, the Columbian Exposition medal was also available in aluminum and white metal. I'm not aware of the mintage figures.
Nice medal! Enjoy owning it!
