I just bought this at an online coin auction. It's not the most attractive coin around but I couldn't say no for the price. Any ideas on what it might grade?
Thanks,
peter

VG, first step acetone bath. Not sure what the black spots are, but they can only get more worser.

Acetone right away, though I doubt it will take the black away, it will stop whatever might be growing in those spots.

Thanks for the advice. I've never given an acetone bath to a coin. How long do you usually let it soak?

Most things come off in less than a minute. If it doesn't come off overnight, it won't come off at all. Of course, the container must be sealed if you're soaking longer than a minute or so, as acetone evaporates quickly.

Use the search box in the upper left to find instructions on how to use acetone properly to avoid harming the coin or yourself!

Interesting. I'd call it VF details.

Good luck making her pretty again! As always with acetone, please be careful.

Update:
I got the coin home and gave it a bath in pure acetone. Then I took some new pictures. Although it still isn't a pretty coin, I think it's a definite improvement over the way it looked before.
