Hello All, I just purchased the book Cherry Pickers Guide volume 4 part II, on the how to use this book it recommended to go to NumisMedia website for prices! I always thought that Gray sheet is the magazine that everyone uses it for prices for any U.S. coins, my question is which is a better choice Gray sheet or NumisMedia?. Thank you for your help and support Jon

The greysheet is wholesale, a guide for dealers.
NumisMedia is retail, a guide for consumers.
A general rule of thumb when buying is you will expect to pay more than the greysheet and will want to pay less than NumisMedia. Of course, these are only guides, so your mileage may vary.

All dealers use greysheet Everytime I go to coin show or dealer shop and ask for price of coin to buy, they always pull out that darn greysheet to give me a price! But greysheet does not adjust price for coins with damage/nicks/corrsion which NGC/PGCS would just grade as Details/Body Bag. I think a site like ebay showing complted sold items gives you a better/closer price of what people would REALLY pay to show real value...It's like they say '''someting is only worth what people would REALLY pay for it'''

If you're receiving a physical copy, which would you rather have in hand? Is one of them more accurate than the other? In a perfect world the greysheet numbers would a percent or consistent number less than Numismedia's numbers.
Or maybe another way to phrase it: as a dealer would you rather see a customer walk in with greysheet or Numismedia?

It seems to me that the collector NEEDS BOTH sets of information.

I use both to buy and sell coins. Expect slightly higher than CDN ask.

, andoyan62! Quote: which is a better choice Gray sheet or NumisMedia?. Greysheet doesn't begin to list everything, I much prefer the free numismedia.

I stopped in the mid 2000's, too expensive, and the pricing wasn't accurate enough a lot of times when gold and silver were changing so quickly. For type coins and the more common stuff it was pretty good though. Once internet pricing came of age, I switched to using that, also various sources like ebay, teletrade and Heritage allow for much more realistic pricing on certain itmes I like such as varieties and oddities that will never make a main-stream price list.

Quote: All dealers use greysheet I learned a long time ago never, ever say ALL. As to which is better? ALL have one thing in common. They are only GUIDES. Remember that since there are many price GUIDES out there. Lots of people do use the Grey Sheets. Some prefer the PCGS web site price listings and many the Numismedia one. Some say the only real price is what is on ebay. I'm surprized to hear that The Cherry Pickers Guide suggests Numismedia since it is published by Whitman as well as the Red Book and Blue Book. I would have thought they would suggest their own books for prices. Maybe they realize some of their prices on coins are out of wack.

OK... MOST of the dealers I go to use greysheet as a base to set price of coins. the PCGS web site price listings are like the one of highest price list out there. Most of the time I win coins on ebay at about half PCGS web site price listings.

Why do you find it unusual that an author would recommend a guide that can be updated daily, as opposed to one that's six months out of date the first day it's available?

Most dealers around here in central Ohio use the Greysheet. Though just this week I was at a dealer I had never been to before; in Zanesville. And he used the Red Book. You should have seen my jaw drop. I honestly can't remember anytime seeing anyone actually use the RedBook to sell a coin. And yes, I passed on his prices.

I use Numismedia for my website pricing. It is updated more frequently than any other price guide. ebay is the most accurate way of fair market value at any given moment.
