Could have something to do with the Aztec calendar. The design seems to be inspired by the Sun Stone ...

Yes,i thought the design was Mayan or Aztec calendar/sun dial/sun stone. But I'm really intrigued by the fact that I can not find another one ( medallion) like mine, actually I can't find anything with this exact same design so I don't know exactly what it is.Thanks for your replies Chrisild & Valdiman.

It's a piece of jewelry....there are limitless variations. Look online for a match of the symbols next to the silver make to find out where made. Likely made for the tourist market in Mexico and quite possibly not even silver under the gold plate. I have seen tons of totally fake "silver" jewelry in the Mexican trade markets....most are usually plated stainless steel

To stay at something patience is reacquired sorry you wont see this and/or you already knew it but here is something Quote: The Aztec calendar is known as the tonalpohualli and consists of 260 days. This system has 20 day signs each ruled by a God/ Goddess. These day signs describe the characteristics of the person born under the sign. If the medallion is rare maybe no one on line has seen it before your chances of a good reply (knowledgeable) are still there. we are all still learning or could-be

Does the 925/1000 mean silver? It is the right number for sterling silver.

Not sure if it is your coin Shaza but I have see a couple of these medallions online site or auctions from time to time (note not the exact one but similar). This is an either Maya calendar or Aztec one.
As to whether it is fake or not, only you would know.
925/1000 yes that proportions for sterling silver.
If you want to know more about the item look at the small hallmark after copyright stamp on the rim, might tell you where it was made I cant see from the photo but what I can make out is an square box 87 and the a P.

mvojnovic I dont think they believe in that maya doomday myth. they just want to know where this item has come from.
I think people arent that interested in this item only, because in mexico/latin america it is a tourist gimmick.
However good luck
