To keep this question short: does silver add any value, aside from the bullion, to the proof ATB Quarter sets from the mint?

I would think it does because the mint #'s are smaller for the silver sets - just my thoughts though. anyone else have any opinions?

I'd say "yes". A few years (such as 1999) are lower mintage, and seem to have a significant premium over the bullion value of the silver. Aside from that, they're the more premium product. But if the mintage is too high in any given year, it'll drive the market value down to the silver content.

Agree with Cap't. In the case of State Quarters, 1999-2002 saw less than 1M sets of the silver proofs, so the 1999 has a big premium over melt, while 2001 & 2002 silver quarters have a decent premium over melt. As for the ATB silver proofs, the 2010 silver quarters ended with the sales of 859K per design, so those could be another 1999, if the series catches on fire, but not if all of the subsequent mintages are about equal or less than that. It should be a impressive slick set once all of the designs are issued.

Already have my Dansco started for just the Silver Quarters. Looking forward to finishing it when I retire in 15 years ROF
