Ok, so I posted a couple months back about a proof Jefferson nickel lot to kick-start the ol' Dansco 8113. After considering all the feedback received, I ended up buying the lot and was fairly happy with it. I have a very similar situation on my hands now...I have a nearly empty Lincoln Cent Dansco 8100 and came across this auction: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-2008-P...em4cffed7becwhich ends up being a little over $2 per proof cent. While paying 200% of face value per coin seems absurd, after consulting the Red Book this seems like a fairly good deal -- assuming they're all PF-65... Thoughts? I've gotten over the "cheating" aspect and I'm pretty likely to pull the trigger here considering the last round of input I received, but hey, it can't hurt to check with the experts before dropping some virtual coin on real coin(s). Original thread: https://goccf.com/t/111672Thanks!

I would not use the percentage over face issue...because we have all done it at one point (if not more) in our lives. If it is worth to you, then go for it!

assuming you arent trying to make money off of them or resell them at some point, the value of a coin is whatever it is worth to you. sometimes you might have to overpay for a coin that you really really like and other coins you may not even want to pay the going rate for because they dont appeal to you.

I looked them up in the NN guide and most proof cents from 1990 and on are $4 each, so it sounds like a fair deal. Before 1990, most are a little cheaper. The best way to know, is to compare prices with other dealers and see what similar completed sales went for.

There are no rules, so do what makes you happiest! My own personal opinion? Go for it. I do not think it is a bad deal.

Nothing is cheating. If it saves you money and it goes towards your collection, then you are just smart!

I just ordered a set myself. I'm slowly closing in on completed my lincoln collection, and this is gonna give me a BIG jump on the proofs. For 100 bucks can't go wrong. Already thrown into 2x2s for us too!

Excellent, EnigmaticMindx! Will definitely have to compare notes with you.
Are you going to keep them in the 2x2s or put them into an album?

I like to keep all of my coins in 2x2s in 3 ring binders. so I plan on just leaving them in the flips. I prefer the flips because it's easier to upgrade coins as I find them, and you can also see the reverse easily. There is also endless room in the collection for any varieties.

So I just checked the tracking info on my cents (should be delivered today - can't wait), and noticed that the seller upped the price by $3 on the sets. This deal just gets better, EnigmaticMindx.

by the way 200% of face value is $.02. (.01 x 200% = .02) for whatever thats worth.
