Ugh! You're right. So I paid 20,000% of face! Seems like way less of a deal when you put it that way. Maybe I'll just go with "200x face". :)

Post office says they delivered, so I can't wait to get to my mailbox and check 'em out.

it still seems like a prtty good value, just an illusion with the math. if you feel likeyou got a good deal then thats the end of the story.

No doubt, dbrablec. I am a little annoyed with myself for being off by two factors of 10 on my math, but eh, whatever.

I have the coins in hand and am about to go through them. The first 3 I've checked look great.

Got mine today too! First off I wanna thank you celticknot for posting this, it's how I found the auction. I went through mine and they all look pretty good. Only a couple have some very minor marks or hits on them which was specified in the auction. Only complaint that I have is that they are not in 2x2's like the auction said, they are in pretty sloppily put together 1.5x1.5's quarter size, not penny size. But that's no biggy at all, I just bought a bloody mountain of penny 2x2's.

Overall I'm pretty darn happy. If only I could find a complete set of the earlier lincoln proofs, the type twos, and a couple modern ones i'd be done and on to the next set!

how do yours look celticknot?

Happy to share the info/wealth, EnigmaticMindx! Glad you were able to kick start your proofs collection as I was.

Like you, I had a couple with minor marks and some with hazing. But generally, I'm very happy with the lot and if I upgrade any, it'll only be 2 or 3. And I noticed the same thing, that these are not contained in 2x2's. No biggie for me; I'll be cutting them out and will put them in my Dansco 8100 tomorrow.

If you run across any similar auctions for UNC sets of cents (or nickels for that matter), let me know as I'm looking to populate the P&D of my 8100 and 8113 with UNCs. I have to imagine that there are vendors that have chopped up UNC mint sets and are doing the same thing.

Cheers!

I don't understand why people think this is cheating - what difference does it make if you buy 1 coin, 5 coins, 10 coins, or ALL of the coins you need in one purchase? Do people look down on that type of purchase? I sure don't! I just bought a fully completed Roosevelt dime set last week, all high-grade MS+ coins with the right luster and appearance for my collection, happy that I wouldn't have to wait forever to complete the set. Now I can devote more time to collecting harder-to-find older non-moderns that are too expensive (or impossible to find) in completed sets.
