Hello, I have a 1887 O Morgan silver dollar with an extra 7 after the date. I am assuming this is a mint error. Any thoughts about the coin would be appreciated.

It certainly looks like a ghost "7". My guess is that it's PMD though as there is no mention of this in the VAM listings.

Thanks for the information Dave. Based on your opinion, and assuming this was not PMD would the "ghost" number add any value to the coin?

No added value to my knowledge. You may want to check out VAMworld.com to see if you can match yours to a known die pair. There are several 1887-O die varieties that are on top 100 list.

Thanks Dave, I did what you suggested. But upon further inspection of the coin in the photo, I discovered what appears to be a second 7 underneath the main seven in addition to the "ghost" 7. It also appears that there is a double 1 to the left side of the date. As far as I can tell, this appears to be a 1887-O VAM-2 Doubled 1, Tripled 7.
