I sent out five packages across the USA, two USPS Priority Mail (IL and NJ) and three USPS First Class (WA, MD and GA). I would have thought that the Priority Mail packages would have gotten to their destinations first (considering the extra cost versus distance ratio), but they all arrived at their new owners address on the same date. Is Priority Mail worth the extra expense or did they just got on the right aircraft at the right time?

IMO opinion, no. I used to carry mail part time and do you know how many carriers fail to take their priority mail out on their routes! I've seen PM packages sit for 5-6 days at the PO sometimes.

First class with delivery confirmation is the best bang for the buck.

Absolutely!...on the Delivery Confirmation (DC). If it is something heavy, which these were not, then obviously Flat Rate Priority with no charge DC. Single coins should go out First Class with no charge DC.

agree with oih.
Most of the time the Priority mail isn't worth the extra money but the flat rates can be a good deal. I think as part of the post office money saving effort they added a day to the time it takes for priority which has made the times basically the same.

The only reason I use priority mail is because I don't have any other quality boxes. First class is as good or better in my experience.

First class with delivery confirmation is '1st choice' for light items, but it has that less than 13 oz limit

First Class mail under 3 oz is my best friend. Fast and cheap at $1.64 with delivery confirmation. I only use flat rate boxes or priority when the contents have a ton of value, but have never had a problem with first class mail.

a few years ago, I bought a lot of coins from America sellers: First class was a lot quicker than Priority, getting to Australia. UPS was hopeless: can't deliver outside Sydney.
