I could not pass this up for $2.00 at a local antique store. Any Ideals on the grade? I have never had a coin graded--would a grading service grade this coin due to the scratch on IKes forehead or lack of a date(I can see the date 1972(d) if I hold it JUST right). Thanks for the help. Tim   |

LOL nice pocket piece, how much does that thing weigh? I would grade it Fair-2 as long as the date is still legible. Most grading companies will not holder a dateless coin unless there is some other identifying diagnostic although NGC will not slab a dateless coin regardless of diagnostics.

I would say PO-1, I once had someone send me a list of low grade ikes they were looking for for a pcgs lowball set. Unfortunately I didn't have any but they told me they would pay hundreds for PO-1's of certain dates. If its gradable its definitely worth a bit of dough indeed.

That is one amazing Ike! You need to post a pic of this in the "post an Ike" thread.
On your coin Ike reminds me of Lord Valdemort - except Ike has a nose!

The coin weighs 21 grams.
I had never thought about the coin being a casino used one, but that makes sense.

Maybe a silly question but why are casinos so hard on coins?Is it the slot machines? I have some '80s and '90s Kennedy halves that are all banged up. Yes the wear on that Ike without any damage is unbelievable! I recently found a '34 LWC out in the street that has been run over by vehicles that was in much better shape. The Ike Group should have a look at that one!  Edited by RealMetal
