Every week I stop at my local BoA branch and ask whether they have anything "interesting" lying around. Usually, the answer is no, but occasionally I'll manage to get a SBA dollar and maybe some clad Kennedy halves. Today, the head teller was looking out for me and excitedly waved me over as soon as she saw me. To make a long story short, somebody had brought in an envelope full of Ikes and she had put them aside for me. Another teller had some SBAs lying around, so I ended up with 23 Ikes, 6 SBAs and a 1995 two dollar bill for my trouble. All right, so it's not much of a score, granted, but still much better than I usually end up with and a very nice surprise. The SBAs will go to my son as part of his weekly allowance (I give him either a golden dollar or a SBA), and the Ikes will go into the vault for the time being. I know they aren't worth much, but I rarely see them selling on ebay for less than $1.25 a pop. Most of the ones I got were bicentennials, which might bring the resale value up a skosh if I ever decide to sell off a bunch of them. Regardless, it's just nice to finally find something different for a change...

You know, I firmly believe that as the current vintage of Ike's, Susan B's, and Sac's age they will become worth more. That's why I also put them into a sack and into the back of the vault. Maybe I should be putting them into rolls, but I just don't see coin wrappers these days that will accomodate the Ike's any longer, and 2x2's are too small for the them also.
So how do you store them if not in the old cloth coin bags?

I store the Ike's in plastic coin tubes. They're the same size as the Morgan and Peace dollars.

Nice score. It was really nice of the teller to hold those coins for you. You might want to bring a little box of chocolates to the bank next time as a thank you gift.

Oh no! Okay, take your wife to Fannie May's (or whatever you've got nearby) and get her whatever box of chocolate she wants if 'she does you the favor of picking out an appropriate thank you gift' and take her with you to the bank next time. The teller my husband sees all the time is this cute gal that is half our age and I'm always trying to get him to bring her a little something and then ask her to be on the look out for stuff I want, but alas, he is too shy.

I have given the tellers that help me over and above their job $5 gift cards to Starbucks. They always appreciate them.
