No Doubled Die? Darn... I'm just curious How does deterioration of the die effects the legends so "perfectly" (so to speak) That the outsome results in Doubled Die-Like Pattern? Either way I'm holding onto this coin! She is quite a nice error
Die Deterioration Doubling is the result of extreme die wear, it is not an error at all. A die is a negative image of a coin, the fields are the highest point on the die and all of the devices are sunken into the die. As a die wears, the edges of the incuse details wear and chip which causes those devices to become outlined. The deterioration is strongest at the periphery where the die wear is greatest, the devices become enlarged and distorted with successive deterioration.
