Does this have any genuine errors, or is it just a poor old beat up coin?

Well hello Nancy, I think that it is listed as a lamination error, the only error I see is the seller thinking it is an lamination. Lamination happens quite often on War Nickels and I suppose it happens on all sorts of coinage.
I think it has to do with the planchet when it is struck, it may be a defective blank with impurities and the pressure from the strike makes it separate or flake off on the surface and leaves a lifted crack or portion cracks off.

From the glossary here on CCF

lamination
A thin piece of metal that has nearly become detached from the surface of a coin. If this breaks off, an irregular hole or planchet flaw is left.

This looks like a damaged coin and not an error to me.

Again,
I wanted to make sure it wasn't just me being too skeptical.

Thanks!

This is correct, except that the lamination can peel away before the strike. It's not unique to planchets it happens in other rolled metals.
The coin in question is just badly damaged.

The e-Pray coin was badly mangled by someone post-mint ... and worth the price shown on the reverse ... 5 USA cents.

Good to see you in the USA section of the forum nancyc.

The pictures are not clear but there MAY be a lamination along the jaw. But considering the rest of the damage the coin has endured even if it does have a lamination it is still worth 5 cents.
